Furniture Layout

I've been working on a few layouts for our new house... First I did them on paper (yes, I cut all the figures and taped them to the paper floor plan... John called it my 'dork project')... I thought about taking photos of that paper (and I did), but I figured that they would be more blurry...


Any way... Here go my layout ideas with a couple of variations... Please vote!!! :-)

He estado trabajando en configuraciones para los muebles de la casa... Primero lo hice en papel (si, corte todas las figuritas y las pegue con tape en el papel con el dibujo de la casa... John le llamo 'mi proyecto nerdo')... Pense en tomar fotos de esa hoja (y lo hice), pero se me hizo como se iban a ver mas borrosas...


De cualquier manera... Aqui van mis ideas para configuraciones con un par de variantes... Voten por favor!!! :-)

First floor - Configuration A

Living Room - 1 L Shape Sofa, 1 Chair (angled toward the sofa), 1 End Table

Foyer - Credenza

Dining Room - Table, 6 or 8 Chairs, maybe a China Cabinet if it fits

Great Room - 1 Sofa, 1 Love Seat, 1 Chair, 1 Coffee Table, 2 End Tables

Breakfast Nook - Round Table, 4 Chairs (the table we already have, we're either re-upholstering the chairs or buying new ones)

First Floor - Configuration B

Differences:

Living Room - 1 More End Table

Great Room - 2 Chairs instead of 1, no Love Seat (the chairs would be angled away from the fireplace).

Second Floor - Configuration A

Loft - 1 Sofa, 1 Love Seat (the ones we currently own, we're probably going to buy covers for them)

Guest Bedroom - 1 Queen Bed, 2 Night Stands, 1 Dresser

Master Bedroom - 1 King Bed, 2 Night Stands, 1 Dresser, 1 Bench

Second Floor - Configuration B

Differences:

Master Bedroom - No Bench, 2 Lounge Chairs, 1 Round Table, 1 Dresser

Wishlist on a Budget

Thanks to my friend Dani who recommended Harbor Freight to me, I've found a nice drill and a saw on a budget!!! Way cheaper than the name brand tools, and I think they'll work just fine for our purpose... Plus there's 1 store close by in St. Charles!!!

Gracias a mi amiga Dani, quien me recomendo a Harbor Freight, encontré un taladro y una sierra que van con mi presupuesto!!! Mucho más baratos que las herramientas de marca, y creo que van a servir bien para lo que yo las ocupo... Además, hay una tienda aquí cerca en St. Charles!!!

Our Stuff: Update

It occured to me that I could look for the shutters and siding samples online to show them to everybody, here's what I found:

Se me ocurrio que podia buscar las muestras de los protectores de las ventanas y el vinil que recubre la casa en linea, y aqui esta lo que encontre:

Our vynil siding will be similar to this color (Pebble).

Nuestra casa va a tener paneles de vinil similares a este color (Pebble).

We chose shutters in "Musket Brown" because I didn't like how the blue, red or green ones looked... Although I did like some light blue ones, that would've made our house look very "Padres" :-). This color sample looks a bit lighter than the sample I saw, which was a bit more "chocolate brown".

Escogimos los protectores de ventanas en "Musket Brown" porque no me gusto como se veian las azules, rojas o verdes... Aunque si me gustaron unas en azul claro pero hubieran hecho ver a nuestra casa muy de los "Padres" :-) Esta muestra de color se ve un poco mas clara que la que yo vi, que se veia un poco mas de color "chocolate".

Our stuff

Today we went to the Selection Studio to finalize our options for the house!!! John let me pick pretty much all of our stuff, but we went together on Monday because I wanted to show him what I had picked to make sure he also liked it :-)

We're pretty much getting EVERYTHING we could want in our dream house, except for 2 things, one of them is the granite countertops, which I think we can wait a few years to get since it would've added several thousand dollars to the cost of our house; the other one is laminate floors, we really like laminate, because it's easy to clean, durable and pretty, but they only offered hardwood flooring (and can't give us the house incomplete), which can scratch and get damaged easily with doggies inside the house... so we decided to go with some "standard" vinyl (aka no extra charge for it) and change it to laminate in a few years.

Yesterday, John went by himself to the Selection Studio so they would enter the information to the database, since I was at work and they have limited appointments... While he was there he sent me this message: "U are officially the biggest dork to buy a house here. They never had an appt where someone was prepared like this! Love ya"... It made me laugh... but yeah, I was VERY prepared: I made a spreadsheet including code, description, colors, cost, quantity and total cost, I also typed another sheet with the information for the other things that were in the selection sheet (paint colors, siding colors, etc.) AND using the layout, I marked the extra spots for lights, fans and TV conections :-) My reply: "But did that make your appt. faster and easier??? That's what I thought :-) Love ya"... Yes, I'm proud of being prepared :-D

Hoy fuimos al Estudio de Seleccion a finalizar las opciones para la casa!!! John me dejo escoger casi todo, nada mas lo lleve el Lunes para asegurarme de que le gustaban las cosas que escogi :-)

Vamos a tener casi TODO lo que podriamos desear en una casa, excepto 2 cosas, una de ellas son las superficies de la cocina, yo quiero granito eventualmente pero decidimos esperarnos porque eso serian varios miles de dolares mas al costo de la casa; la otra es piso laminado, nos gusta mucho el laminado porque es facil de limpiar, durable y esta bonito, pero la compania solo ofrece pisos de madera (y no nos pueden entregar la casa sin terminar), la cual se puede rayar o danar facilmente, especialmente cuando uno tiene perros adentro de la casa... asi que vamos a poner vinyl "estandar" (osease sin costo adicional) y cambiar a laminado en algunos anios.

Ayer John fue al Estudio de Seleccion solo para que metieran la informacion a la base de datos, porque yo estaba en el trabajo y solo hacen citas a ciertas horas... Mientras estaba ahi me mando este mensaje de texto: "Eres oficialmente la persona mas nerda que ha comprado una casa aqui. Nunca habian tenido una cita con una persona tan preparada. Te amo"... Si, tal vez exagere un poco, hice una hoja de calculo con los codigos, descripciones, colores, costos, cantidades y costo total; otra hoja con la informacion adicional (colores para la alfombra, el piso, etc.), y use unos dibujos con la configuracion de la casa para senalar donde van las luces extras por las que pagamos, los abanicos y las conexiones para la television :-). Mi respuesta: "Pero eso hizo tu cita mas facil y rapida no? Aja, eso es lo que pense :-) Te amo"... Si, me siento orgullosa de estar preparada :-D

This is exactly the fireplace we chose, same mantle, same marble (the bottom portion is wider on the real thing though).

We chose the regular knobs (not the levers) in the middle (brushed nickel - silver color).

Yeah... It's weird the thing's you become interested in the different stages of your life...

Thinking about home improvement projects for the future, and hanging picture frames, mirrors, art, etc. when we move into our new house, I REALLY think these tools would be a good investment... Who knew they were so expensive!!!

Si... Es raro ver las cosas en las que uno se interesa en las diferente etapas de su vida...

Pensando en proyectos de mejora para la casa en el futuro, y colgar cuadros, espejos, arte, etc. cuando nos cambiemos a nuestra nueva casa, creo que estas herramientas serían REALMENTE un buena inversión... Quién hubiera pensado que salen tan caras!!!

I used one of these today to hang our cleaining supplies at work... And I was good with it!!! Could I borrow it from work instead of paying $526 for this one???

Hoy usé uno como este en el trabajo para colgar unos utencilios de limpieza... Y la verdad si la armé usándolo!!! Podría pedirlo prestado del trabajo en vez de pagar $526 por uno???

A saw by itself is about $400... so I would definetely pay $104 more to buy the saw WITH the table (safer and probably better for the actual cutting).

La pura sierra cuesta $400... así que yo creo que definitivamente pagaría $104 más para comprar la sierra CON la mesa (creo que sería más seguro y mejor para cuando estás cortando).

Great news!!!

This news is $7000 good!!! It turns out that there has been some changes on the standard features of the house and now we're getting the wiring of the garage door for free (that's about $105 or so), BUT the BEST news is that we found out yesterday when we went to the "Selection Studio" (the place where you get to pick your appliances, siding, shutters, flooring, cabinets, door hardware, and all that other fun stuff) that the "Finished Basement" that we're getting, INCLUDES a finished complete bathroom!!!

So now we're up to 4 bedrooms, 3 living areas, 2 dining areas and 3 and a half bathrooms!!! Yay!!!

And another little bonus is that they had charged us for a "rough in" (the pipes for the bathroom in the basement), but now we don't have to pay for that (around $1000)!!! So not only we have an extra full bathroom (around $6000), we're also "saving" $1000. Hooray!!!

I also got an drawing of how our finished basement will look, and I'm sharing this with you. Enjoy!

Esta noticia es $7000 buena!!! Resulta que han habido algunos cambios en las cosas que vienen estándar con la casa, y para empezar nos vamos a ahorrar como $105 en el cableado para el mecanismo para abrir la puerta del garage, PERO la MEJOR noticia es que ayer que fuimos al Estudio de Selecciones (donde escoges el color del vinyl de tu casa, los pisos, alfombras, colores, gabinetes, electrodomésticos y todas eso) nos enteramos de que el sótano "terminado" INCLUYE un baño completo!!!

Así que vamos en 4 recámaras, 3 estancias, 2 áreas para comer y 3 baños y medio!!! Yay!!!

Otro pequeño bono es que nos habían cobrado por la plomería para un "futuro baño" en el sótano, y ya no vamos a tener que pagar eso (como $1000)!!! Así que no sólo tenemos otro baño completo (como $6000) del que no sabíamos, también nos estamos ahorrando casi $1000 en lo otro!!! Hurra!!! (Tipo traducción de caricaturas :-D).

También nos dieron un dibujo de nuestro sótano terminado que estoy compartiendo aquí. Que lo disfruten!!!
