Drawings

I was in a meeting the other day... You can tell I was paying lots of attention because I started thinking about the decoration and layout for most of the tables, dressers, nightstands, consoles, etc. and made some drawings :-D

Since we still don't have this furniture and I still don't know exactly what I want for most of them I'm just leaving them as scribbles for now, once the ideas progress I'll make them prettier :-)

Here they go :-)

El otro dia estaba en una junta... Y se podran dar cuenta cuanta atencion estaba poniendo porque empece a pensar en la decoracion y la configuracion de la mayoria de las mesas, buroes, mesas de centro, etc., e hice algunos dibujos :-D

Como todavia no tenemos estos muebles y no se exactamente que quiero voy a dejar esto en garabatos, y ya que avancen las ideas los pasare en limpio y bonito :-)

The foyer

La entrada

Need: Console with storage (for leashes, purses, keys), 2 lamps, round mirror, 2 lamps and a floral arrangement.

Necesitamos: el mueble con espacio para guardar cosas (las correas de las perras, bolsas, las llaves), 2 lamparas, un espejo redondo, 2 lamparas y un arreglo floral.

Living Room - Coffee Table

Sala - Mesa de centro

Need: 2 candlesticks, a decorative bowl (preferably metallic) and a book (I'm thinking a book about St. Louis)

Necesitamos: 2 candelabros, un platon (preferiblemente metalico) y un libro (estoy pensando en un libro acerca de St. Louis)

For the side tables: 2 lamps (I already found some at Crate and Barrel that I liked a lot), maybe some white coral and decorative boxes.

Para las mesitas de los lados: 2 lamparas (ya encontre unas que me gustaron mucho de Crate and Barrel), tal vez coral blanco y cajas decorativas.

Great Room - Mantle

Cuarto Familiar - Chimenea

Need: 2 Candlesticks, a rectangular mirror (I wanted art, but instead the art will be in the living room) and either a fireplace screen (I'm leaning toward that) or some vases, we already have the picture frames :-)

Necesitamos: 2 candelabros, un espejo rectangular (yo queria una pintura, pero mejor vamos a poner la pintura en la sala) y una pantalla para la chimenea (que es lo que se me hace que quiero mas) o unos floreros, y ya tenemos los marcos de fotografias :-)

Master Bedroom - Dresser
Recamara Principla - Comoda

Need: Dresser and lamps (I didn't want a TV in the bedroom, but getting up on the weekend and "having" to get up to watch TV sucks :-D).
Necesitamos: La comoda y las lamparas (yo no queria tener tele en el cuarto, pero esta gacho despertarse el fin de semana y "tener" que levantarse para ver la tele :-D)
Nightstands (we'll only have 2 but I was drawing different options)
Buroes (nada mas vamos a tener 2 pero estaba dibujando las diferentes opciones)

Need: Nightstands, lamps (2), picture frames, some kind of floral arrangements
Necesitamos: Los buroes, lamparas (2), marcos para fotos, y algun arreglo floral

Guest bedroom - Nightstands

Need: 1 lamp, a decorative box and floral arrangement
Necesitamos: 1 lampara, una cajita decorativa y un arreglo floral

Basement

I also drew what we'll eventually do with the basement :-)
Need: Entretainment center (already have the TV), pool table, bar, bar stools and a "bar height" table (is that even a real term?). The L shape thing is the sectional we already have and the ottoman.

Tambien dibuje lo que eventualmente haremos con el sotano :-)
Necesitamos: Mueble para la tele (ya tenemos la tele), mesa de billar, un bar, sillas para el bar y una mesa alta. La cosa cosa en forma de L es un sillon que ya tenemos y un ottoman.

More planning

I wanted to recreate the layouts for the areas where the new furniture (already purchased or "soon" to be purchased) will be going, which has changed since the first time I made a preliminary layout.

So I posting the new proposed layout, plus some/most of the furniture I'm planning to use :-) I'm really excited about decorating and seeing how everything keeps coming together!!!

(Thanks to Amanda for the idea of using Power Point to recreate the rooms!!! And congratulations on your new baby girl!!!).

Queria recrear las configuraciones de las areas donde van a ir muebles nuevos (ya se que acabamos de comprar o lo que vamos a comprar "pronto"), las cuales han cambiado desde la primera vez que hice la configuracion preliminar.

Asi que estoy posteando la nueva configuracion, y ademas los muebles que pienso usar :-) Estoy muy contenta decorando y viendo como se ve todo junto!!!

(Gracias a Amanda por la idea de usar Power Point para recrear los cuartos!!! Y felicidades por tu nueva bebita!!!).

Living Room

We actually went to Macys last Saturday and bought this sofa and the blue chair!!! The lamps are from Crate and Barrel, the white leather chair is from Grandin Road, the table from CB2. I still haven't decided on the end tables (I liked 2 from Grandin Road, but now I think I want square tables) and I'm also planning on getting a floor lamp for next to one of the chair but haven't found one yet :-) Oh, and the art is from Home Decorators, I've loved it for a while now and I think it'll actually look pretty good here, what do you think?

El sabado fuimos a Macys y compramos este sofa y la silla azul!!! Las lamparas son de Crate and Barrel, y la silla de piel blanca is de Grandin Road, la mesa es de CB2. Todavia no me decido en las mesitas de los lados porque me gustaban unas de Grandin Road pero ahora estoy pensando que mejor quiero unas mesas cuadradas para ahi, y tambien estoy planeando comprar una lampara de piso para un lado de una de las sillas pero todavia no la encuentro :-) Ah, y el cuadro es de Home Decorators, me ha gustado desde hace unos meses y se me hace que se va a ver bien ahi, que les parece?

We actually got this furniture in already, but we haven't finished setting it up because we're still missing the coffee table (and half of the basement sectional, so we haven't moved the TV downstairs either), BUT, I think that my favorite layout (1) is NOT going to work because the sofa is too big and, where am I going to plug the table lamps, specially the one on the left??? But we'll see... It's not super hard to move the furniture around, so once the coffee table comes in, I'll post some pictures with the options.

Estos muebles ya nos llegaron, pero no hemos terminado de instalarlos porque todavia estamos esperando la mesa de centro (y la mitad del sofa seccional para el sotano, asi que tampoco hemos movido la tele a alla abajo), PERO, se me hace que mi configuracion favorita (1) NO va a funcionar porque el sofa esta demasiado grande y, donde voy a conectar las lamparas, especialmente la del lado izquierdo??? Pero ya veremos... No es muy dificil mover los muebles, asi que ya que llegue la mesa posteare algunas fotos con las opciones.

I think we're going to go with a rectangular dining table for 6, with a china cabinet and 2 chairs flanking the cabinet for when we have more people over :-) But I'm still not 100% commited to any dining room set... still looking :-)

Creo que vamos a usar una mesa rectangular para 6 personas, con un gabinete para vajilla (sorry, no me acuerdo como se llaman) y 2 sillas a los lados de gabinete para cuando tengamos mas invitados :-) Pero todavia no estoy 100% convencida de cual juego de comedor vamos a comprar... y todavia estoy buscando :-)

This is the chair color I'm considering (I'm going to call Restoration Hardware tomorrow to get some fabric samples).

We already got this furniture too, but we're waiting to paint to unpack it :-) I was actually considering leaving the room in the color that it actually is but after creating this mock up, I think I AM going to go with the lilac/gray-ish walls :-)

And this is the layout for our bedroom, including poster bed, nightstands, 2 reading chairs, a table, an ottoman, and dresser (we weren't planning on having a TV in our bedroom, but I think I'm going got cave and put it on top of the dresser). We still haven't decided on furniture specifics :-)

Y esta es la configuracion para nuestra recamara, incluyendo la cama con postes, las mesitas de noche, 2 sillas para leer, una mesita, un ottoman y el chiffonier (no estabamos planeando tener una tele en nuestro cuarto, pero se me hace que voy a ceder y la vamos a poner arriba del chiffonier). Todavia no decidimos los muebles :-)

Living Room Dilemma

If you've been following my house blog you know that we'll have 4 areas (living room, great room, loft and basement) in our house that will require sofas, chairs or some type of sitting... that we don't have since we live in a 1 bedroom apartment.


So, after searching IRL, we're almost set on this sectional the living room furniture:

Si has estado siguiendo mi blog sabes que tenemos 4 areas (la sala, el cuarto familiar, la estancia y el sotano) en nuestra casa que requieren sofas, sillas o algun tipo de asiento... y que no los tenemos ya que vivimos en un departamento de 1 recamara.

Bueno, pues despues de buscar "en la vida real" (o sea, no nomas en linea) ya casi nos decidimos por este seccional para la sala:





I had already started looking for another one because we went to the furniture store that sales it and they told us it was on sale because it was going to be discontinued... well, for some reason I went online a couple of days ago, and it's STILL THERE!!! It's great for us, but I'm glad we didn't get rushed into buying it!

We've also decided on the style of furniture for the basement (it has to be manly!!!) :-) It'll be something like the 2 below:

Yo ya habia empezado a buscar otro porque cuando fuimos a verlo a la muebleria que lo vende nos dijeron que estaba rebajado porque lo iban a descontinuar... y por alguna razon se me ocurrio meterme a la pagina de la muebleria otra vez hace unos dias, y TODAVIA ESTA AHI!!! Lo cual es muy bueno para nosotros, pero me da gusto que no nos dejamos presionar para comprarlo!

Ya tambien decidimos el estilo de mueble que queremos para el sotano (tiene que ser masculino!!!) :-) Va a ser algo parecido a los 2 de abajo:
But here's my dilema.... If you remember the layout I want for the great room, I wanted 2 chairs, 1 for each side of the fireplace... And I found this one, that I loved and I had almost decided to buy it as a set with the sofa... But real life it turned out to look too brownish (I thought it had a bit more blue-green to it) :-( Another con is that it wouldn't really go with the art piece I want for the mantlepiece.

Pero he aqui mi dilema... Si recuerdan el layout que quiero para el cuarto familiar, yo quiero 2 sillas, 1 para cada lado de la chimenea... Y me encontre este, que me encanto y hasta habia casi decidido comprarlo como set con el sofa... Hasta que lo vi en persona y se ve muy cafe (yo pense que tenia un poco mas de azul aqua) :-( Otro punto en contra es que se me hace que no quedaria con el cuadro que quiero para arriba de la chimenea.

But I don't like any of the 2 couches that they show as options for the chair... One looks too "Smurfy", and the other one too "blah"...

Pero no me gustaron ninguno de los 2 sillones que muestran como opciones para la silla... Uno se ve muy "pitufo" y el otro muy sin chiste...



I also saw this other sofa on the furniture store's website, which I kind of liked in the picture, and in person I thought it looked really good:

Tambien vi este otro sofa en la pagina de internet de la muebleria, que me gusto un poco en la foto, pero en persona se me hizo que se veia muy bien:




But the chair that's part of that set:

1) Is too big (it's called 1 and 1/2 chair)
2) More expensive
3) Has the same pattern as the couch, which I didn't want... I kind of wanted something different that was functional but also served as accent furniture.

Pero la silla que es parte de este set:

1) Esta demasiado grande (le dicen silla y 1/2)
2) Mas cara
3) Es del mismo color/tela que el sillon, lo cual yo no queria... Como que quiero algo diferente que fuera funcional pero tambien que sirviera como un elemento de decoracion.

I started thinking about it... And thought that maybe the darker color couch will work for us (stains less noticeble), especially in the Great Room, where we'll be spending time as a family (puppies included)... And started considering mixing it up... With this last couch and the stripped chair...

I usually "know" what I want and what I like, but in this case... I'm not sure...

What do you think???

Me puse a pensar sobre eso... Y creo que tal vez el color mas oscuro va a funcionar para nosotros (se le notan menos las manchas), especialmente para el cuarto familiar, porque vamos a estar pasando tiempo ahi como familia (incluyendo a las perras)... Y empece a considerar mezclar los muebles... El ultimo sillon con la silla de rayas...

Usualmente "se" lo que quiero y lo que me gusta, pero en este caso no estoy segura...

Que les parece???

Lot Layout

Here it is!!! This is our lot layout!!! I think this was the best part of yesterday's meeting, just seeing how our actual house is going to be set in the lot. They had also had the lot marked with teh "corners" of the house, but we didn't have our camera with us. Oh well... We'll most likely go over this weekend to check out the progress.

The meeting with the Field Manager was going ok... until John and him discovered they're BOTH from Nebraska and BIG Huskers fans!!! Then it got even better... Although, I'm not sure if I want John to be really good friends with him, since he said he can make a "N" right on our entry!!! LOL

They start digging today!!! We're VERY excited!!!

Aquí está!!! Esta es la configuración de nuestro lote!!! Creo que fue lo mejor de la reunión de ayer, ver como va a estar nuestra casa ubicada exactamente. También tenían marcadas las "esquinas" de la casa, pero no llevamos la cámara. Ni modo... Lo más probable es que vayamos este fin de semana para ver el progreso.

La reunión con el Gerente de Campo iba bien... hasta que John y él descubrieron que los dos son de Nebraska, y SUPER fans de los Huskers!!! Entonces nos fue mejor... Aunque no estoy muy segura si me conviene que John se haga super amigo de este wey, porque hasta nos ofreció poner una "N" en la rampa al garage!!! Jajaja

Hoy empiezan a excavar!!! Estamos muy emocionados!!!

Furniture Layout

I've been working on a few layouts for our new house... First I did them on paper (yes, I cut all the figures and taped them to the paper floor plan... John called it my 'dork project')... I thought about taking photos of that paper (and I did), but I figured that they would be more blurry...


Any way... Here go my layout ideas with a couple of variations... Please vote!!! :-)

He estado trabajando en configuraciones para los muebles de la casa... Primero lo hice en papel (si, corte todas las figuritas y las pegue con tape en el papel con el dibujo de la casa... John le llamo 'mi proyecto nerdo')... Pense en tomar fotos de esa hoja (y lo hice), pero se me hizo como se iban a ver mas borrosas...


De cualquier manera... Aqui van mis ideas para configuraciones con un par de variantes... Voten por favor!!! :-)

First floor - Configuration A

Living Room - 1 L Shape Sofa, 1 Chair (angled toward the sofa), 1 End Table

Foyer - Credenza

Dining Room - Table, 6 or 8 Chairs, maybe a China Cabinet if it fits

Great Room - 1 Sofa, 1 Love Seat, 1 Chair, 1 Coffee Table, 2 End Tables

Breakfast Nook - Round Table, 4 Chairs (the table we already have, we're either re-upholstering the chairs or buying new ones)

First Floor - Configuration B

Differences:

Living Room - 1 More End Table

Great Room - 2 Chairs instead of 1, no Love Seat (the chairs would be angled away from the fireplace).

Second Floor - Configuration A

Loft - 1 Sofa, 1 Love Seat (the ones we currently own, we're probably going to buy covers for them)

Guest Bedroom - 1 Queen Bed, 2 Night Stands, 1 Dresser

Master Bedroom - 1 King Bed, 2 Night Stands, 1 Dresser, 1 Bench

Second Floor - Configuration B

Differences:

Master Bedroom - No Bench, 2 Lounge Chairs, 1 Round Table, 1 Dresser

Our new house!!!

This will be our new house!!! I signed the contract on August 11 after signing a contingent contract a few days prior.


On August 16 I finalized all the structural characteristics.


The model is called Rosewood and it's 3062 sq. ft. We'll have 4 bedrooms and 2-1/2 bathrooms, 3 living areas (living room, great room and loft) and 2 dinning areas. And one of my favorite feature is the dual walk in closets (WIC) in the Master Bedroom!!!

Our lot is 9264 sq. ft (0.21 acres)!!!

I can't wait to start decorating our house!!! That's why I created this blog, to document our purchase, the construction, ideas, and decoration... And once we have our new house I'll post a lot of before and after photos!!!

Esta es nuestra nueva casa!!! Firmé el contrato el 11 de agosto después de haber firmado un contrato condicional unos días antes.

El 16 de agosto finalicé las características estructurales.

El modelo que escogimos se llama Rosewood y es de 3062 pies cuadrados (284 metros cuadrados). Tendremos 4 recámaras y 2-1/2 baños, 3 estancias (sala, cuarto familiar y estancia), y 2 áreas para comer. Una de las cosas que más me gustan de la casa son los 2 closets grandes (WIC) en la recámara principal!!!

Nuestro lote mide 9264 pies cuadrados (0.21 acres)!!! (860 metros cuadrados).

No puedo esperar para empezar a decorar nuestra casa!!! Por eso creé este blog, para documentar nuestra compra, la construcción, ideas, y decoración... Y ya que nos den la casa voy a postear muchas fotos de antes y después!!!
