Weekly Update

And we went back this weekend, to check out the inside... Unfortunatelly the new pictures might not be very interesting to see, since we mostly have new electric wiring now, but they also made the staircase to the basement and poured the cement in there!

Y regresamos este fin de semana a ver como van adentro... Desafortunadamente puede que las nuevas fotos no sean tan interesantes porque la mayoria del trabajo fue en el cableado electrico, pero tambien pusieron la escalera hacia el sotano y echaron el cemento ahi!

Christmas Eve

We went to our house on Xmas Eve... I told John most people DO work all the way up to Xmas, but there wasn't much else to do... so we went any way :-)

And of course they were working in it, so we just drove around and looked at the house from the outside and went to the next street down to see it from the back... Here are the pictures:

Fuimos a la casa el dia de Noche Buena... Le dije a John que la mayoria de la gente SI trabaja todos los dias menos el dia de Navidad, pero como tampoco teniamos muchas cosas que hacer... fuimos de todas maneras :-)

Y claro que estaban trabajando adentro, asi que nada mas manejamos alrededor y miramos la casa por fuera, y le dimos la vuelta a la calle para verla desde atras... Y aqui estan las fotos:

Weekend Updates

As you'll see on the 3rd picture down, there's not a lot of changes on the outside of the house this week, but they finished the deck (at least the part where you stand on), they started putting the fireplace in (it's going to be gas), they're still working on the plumbing, and they started preparing the garage and the basement to pour the cement (it seems like).

We also took a couple of pictures of our house from the side street, I guess that once the house next to ours is built you won't be able to see all of ours that much, but here's how it looks today :-)

Como veran en la tercer foto, no hay muchos cambios en el exterior de la casa esta semana, pero terminaron la terraza (por lo menos la parte donde te paras), y empezaron a poner la chimenea (va a ser de gas), siguen trabajando en la plomeria, y ya empezaron a preparar el garage y el sotano para vaciar el cemento (parece).

Tambien tomamos algunas fotos de la casa desde una calle aledana, me imagino que una vez que construyan la casa de a un lado nuestra casa no se va a ver tanto, pero asi es como se ve el dia de hoy :-)

Si alcanzan a notar la reja de madera atras de nuestra casa, ahi es donde termina nuestro lote, no esta mal, verdad?

But it's always nice to get the official status update of where we are now :-)

I'm guessing it'll take them the whole end of the month to complete the plumbing and electrical wiring, because we're supposed to have our Pre-Drywall meeting at the beginning of January... It seems that we're right on schedule!!!

No es que no supiéramos, pero siempre es bueno tener la actualización oficial del status de la casa :-)

Me imagino que les va a llevar el resto del mes completar toda la plomería y el cableado eléctrico porque se supone que vamos a tener nuestra cita de Pre-Enyesado a principios de Enero... Así que parece que todo va conforme al plan!!!

The roof is done!!!

The roof is done!!! The shingles are already installed!!! And so are the windows!!! Even the door is installed.

On the inside, they already started with some of the plumbing, and the upstairs bathrooms now have the tubs (regular one on the aisle bathroom and garden tub in the master's), and the shower in the master bathtoom.

We just can't wait until we get to see the finished product!!!

Ya terminaron el techo!!! Y las tejas del techo ya estan instaladas!!! Tambien las ventanas!!! Hasta la puerta ya esta puesta.

En el interior, ya empezaron con algo de la plomeria, y los banios de arriba ahora tienen tinas (una tina regular en el banio del pasillo y una tina de "jardin" en el del nuestro cuarto), y la regadera del banio de nosotros.

No podemos esperar a ver el producto terminado!!!

Woo Hoo!!! Second Story

The second story and the roof are up!!! It's not completed, but the exterior looks like a house now!!!

From the 2nd floor looking down is kind of scary because of how high it is!!!

We've taken a few videos of the house, but lately I haven't been able to upload them through Blogger (I'm getting all kinds of errors)... So, I setup an account with YouTube (I thought I had one, but can't seem to get the login right)... Any way... I'm finally uploading this week's videos!!! I won't even bother with last week's anymore :-( .

Hemos tomado algunos videos de nuestra casa, pero ultimamente no he podido cargarlos a traves de Blogger (me estan saliendo un chorro de errores)... Asi que decidi sacar una cuenta en YouTube (pense que tenia una, pero como que no me puedo meter)... Bueno, de cualquier forma... Finalmente voy a subir unos videos de esta semana!!! Ni siquiera me voy a molestar en tratar de subir los de la semana pasada :-( .

The Frame: Week 2

We went to check out the progress of the house today. This time the advance it not as obvious on the pictures, but we can REALLY tell it's getting there...

They finished putting up all the external walls for the first floor, and they put up all the frames for the inside walls, including the fire place; they also put together the stair case to the second floor, and they have our windows ready for installation, and the frame for our roof!!!

It's great to seeing it all coming together!!!

Hoy fuimos a checar el progreso de nuestra casa. Esta vez el avance no es tan obvio en las fotos, pero REALMENTE pudimos ver que ahi va...

Terminaron de instalar todas las paredes exteriores del primer piso, incluyendo la chimenea; tambien instalaron las escaleras al segundo piso, ya tienen las ventanas listas para ponerlas, y los marcos para el techo de la casa!!!

Se siente curada ver como van poniendo todo junto!!!

Front of the house... If you compare them to last weeks pictures you can tell it's a little bit taller...that's the ceiling of the first floor.

El frente de la casa... Si comparan esta foto con la de la semana pasada pueden ver que esta un poco mas alta... ese es el techo del primer piso.

Our frame has been started!!!

On Thursday morning I got the automated update on our house status letting us know that our house frame had been started:

Today (Saturday, November 22) we went to check it out and were very surprised on how far they've gone!!!

Yes... Iwas freezing... So I thought putting my hoodie on was a good idea... I didn't realize I would look like a dork on this photo LOL

Hoy (Sabado 22 de Noviembre) fuimos a checar como van y nos sorprendio mucho que tanto han avanzado!!!

Si... Me estaba congelando... Asi que pense que ponerme el gorro era una buena idea... Solo que no pense en que me iba a ver bien wey en la photo jajajaj

La parte de enfrente, se puede ver el garage, la puerta principal y las 2 ventanas (cubiertas por el plastico azul en el lado derecho).



Back of the house. First floor and basement. On the first floor you can see the 3 windows that will be in the great room, the sliding glass door and the kitchen window. On the basement you can see the sliding door and 2 windows!!! (I didn't know we were having windows there LOL).

La parte trasera. El primer piso y el sotano. En el primer piso se pueden ver las 3 ventanas que van a estar en el cuarto familiar, la abertura para la puerta de vidrio y la ventana de la cocina. En el sotano se ve la puerta y las 2 ventanas (yo no sabia que iba a haber ventanas ahi jajaja).

Living Room Dilemma

If you've been following my house blog you know that we'll have 4 areas (living room, great room, loft and basement) in our house that will require sofas, chairs or some type of sitting... that we don't have since we live in a 1 bedroom apartment.


So, after searching IRL, we're almost set on this sectional the living room furniture:

Si has estado siguiendo mi blog sabes que tenemos 4 areas (la sala, el cuarto familiar, la estancia y el sotano) en nuestra casa que requieren sofas, sillas o algun tipo de asiento... y que no los tenemos ya que vivimos en un departamento de 1 recamara.

Bueno, pues despues de buscar "en la vida real" (o sea, no nomas en linea) ya casi nos decidimos por este seccional para la sala:





I had already started looking for another one because we went to the furniture store that sales it and they told us it was on sale because it was going to be discontinued... well, for some reason I went online a couple of days ago, and it's STILL THERE!!! It's great for us, but I'm glad we didn't get rushed into buying it!

We've also decided on the style of furniture for the basement (it has to be manly!!!) :-) It'll be something like the 2 below:

Yo ya habia empezado a buscar otro porque cuando fuimos a verlo a la muebleria que lo vende nos dijeron que estaba rebajado porque lo iban a descontinuar... y por alguna razon se me ocurrio meterme a la pagina de la muebleria otra vez hace unos dias, y TODAVIA ESTA AHI!!! Lo cual es muy bueno para nosotros, pero me da gusto que no nos dejamos presionar para comprarlo!

Ya tambien decidimos el estilo de mueble que queremos para el sotano (tiene que ser masculino!!!) :-) Va a ser algo parecido a los 2 de abajo:
But here's my dilema.... If you remember the layout I want for the great room, I wanted 2 chairs, 1 for each side of the fireplace... And I found this one, that I loved and I had almost decided to buy it as a set with the sofa... But real life it turned out to look too brownish (I thought it had a bit more blue-green to it) :-( Another con is that it wouldn't really go with the art piece I want for the mantlepiece.

Pero he aqui mi dilema... Si recuerdan el layout que quiero para el cuarto familiar, yo quiero 2 sillas, 1 para cada lado de la chimenea... Y me encontre este, que me encanto y hasta habia casi decidido comprarlo como set con el sofa... Hasta que lo vi en persona y se ve muy cafe (yo pense que tenia un poco mas de azul aqua) :-( Otro punto en contra es que se me hace que no quedaria con el cuadro que quiero para arriba de la chimenea.

Then, I had also seen the picture of this other chair, similar in shape and style, but completely different pattern:

Luego, vi la foto de esta silla, similar en forma y estilo, pero con un patron completamente distinto:






But I don't like any of the 2 couches that they show as options for the chair... One looks too "Smurfy", and the other one too "blah"...

Pero no me gustaron ninguno de los 2 sillones que muestran como opciones para la silla... Uno se ve muy "pitufo" y el otro muy sin chiste...



I also saw this other sofa on the furniture store's website, which I kind of liked in the picture, and in person I thought it looked really good:

Tambien vi este otro sofa en la pagina de internet de la muebleria, que me gusto un poco en la foto, pero en persona se me hizo que se veia muy bien:




But the chair that's part of that set:

1) Is too big (it's called 1 and 1/2 chair)
2) More expensive
3) Has the same pattern as the couch, which I didn't want... I kind of wanted something different that was functional but also served as accent furniture.

Pero la silla que es parte de este set:

1) Esta demasiado grande (le dicen silla y 1/2)
2) Mas cara
3) Es del mismo color/tela que el sillon, lo cual yo no queria... Como que quiero algo diferente que fuera funcional pero tambien que sirviera como un elemento de decoracion.

I started thinking about it... And thought that maybe the darker color couch will work for us (stains less noticeble), especially in the Great Room, where we'll be spending time as a family (puppies included)... And started considering mixing it up... With this last couch and the stripped chair...

I usually "know" what I want and what I like, but in this case... I'm not sure...

What do you think???

Me puse a pensar sobre eso... Y creo que tal vez el color mas oscuro va a funcionar para nosotros (se le notan menos las manchas), especialmente para el cuarto familiar, porque vamos a estar pasando tiempo ahi como familia (incluyendo a las perras)... Y empece a considerar mezclar los muebles... El ultimo sillon con la silla de rayas...

Usualmente "se" lo que quiero y lo que me gusta, pero en este caso no estoy segura...

Que les parece???
