We finally decided to get our bedroom set and went out to buy it today :-) We REALLY wanted a canopy bed and for a while we thought we wouldn't be able to get it because our fan is kind of in the way (this bed is HUGE), so we considered buying another bed from the same collection (last picture) but we decided, last minute, to get it any way and either get smaller blades for it or move it to the loft once our bedroom set is delivered :-)

It has a bit of a backorder, but we should be getting it around the end of May. Can't wait!!! :-)

Finalmente decidimos comprar nuestro juego de recamara y fuimos a comprarlo hoy :-) REALMENTE queriamos una cama con postes pero pensabamos que no se nos iba a hacer porque nuestro ventilador se atraviesa (esta cama esta SUPER grande), asi que consideramos comprar otra cama de la misma coleccion (la de la ultima foto) pero decidimos, a ultima hora, comprar la que nos gusta mas de todas maneras y comprar aspas mas cortas para el ventilador o moverlo a la estancia del segundo piso si es necesario cuando nos la entreguen :-)

La produccion esta medio atrasada, pero se supone que nos la van a entregar para finales de Mayo. No puedo esperar!!! :-)

Pillows

For a little while I've been wanting to buy or make some small rectangular pillows for the 2 chairs in the great room, since I was getting the feeling that they looked too bare... And today, while going to JC Penney to look for curtains for the basement I found ones that basically fit my requirements... But then... we went to Target to get filters for our AC units and of course, they had similar pillows that I liked even more :-S

So I bought them too and tried them out on our chairs. In the end I decided to use the ones I got at Target here... and John took the other ones for the basement :-) Win-win!!!

Desde hace un rato habia estado queriendo comprar o hacer unas almohadas pequenas rectangulares para las 2 sillas en el cuarto familiar, porque se me hacia que se veian medio pelonas... Y hoy, mientras estabamos en JC Penney buscando unas cortinas para el sotano encontre unas que basicamente cubrian mis requisitos... Pero luego... fuimos a Target a comprar unos filtros para nuestras unidades de aire acondicionado y claro, que tenian unas almohadas similares que me gustaron mas :-S

Asi que las compre tambien para ver cuales se veian mejor... A fin de cuentas decidi usar las que compre en Target... Y John agarro las otras para el sillon que esta en el sotano :-) Ganar-ganar!!!

Adventures in Gardening

Now that Spring is here I've been enjoying our flowers, I mowed the lawn yesterday and today I got some lilies from Lowes to plant in the pots I got for the front door, and I think it looks pretty good... so I wanted to share :-)

I got a couple of unwelcome surprises, but overall, I've been enjoying being a rookie gardener :-)

Ahora que ya llego la Primavera he estado disfrutando de nuestras flores he estado disfrutando nuestras flores, ayer corte el pasto y hoy compre lilis de Lowes para plantarlas en unas macetas que compre para la puerta de la casa, y se me hace que se ve bien, asi que queria compartir :-)

Recibi un par de sorpresas non-gratas, pero en general, he estado disfrutando ser una jardinera novata :-)

The front of the house, now that you can see the flower bed with flowers... although this is a less than perfect picture since it was early in the morning and the sun was behind my house :-S Oh yeah, I was afraid that my hydrangeas had died over the winter, but it looks like they're starting to turn green again (at least 2 out of the 3)... Keep your fingers crossed!!!

El frente de la casa, ahora que se ve la jardinera con flores... aunque esta foto es menos que ideal porque era temprano y el sol esta atras de mi casa :-S Ah si, temia que mis hortensias se habian muerto en el invierno pero parece que estan empezando a reverdecer (al menos 2 de las 3)... Last but not least... The unpleasant surprises... WARNING: Don't keep scrolling if you get grossed out easily or if you're afraid of spiders!!!

I'm pretty sure these things were some kind of mushroom, but I had never seen anything like them... and they looked disgusting!!! I put my gardening gloves on and dug them out, putting them in a plastic bag immediately, as to not spread them or something (or so I think). Then, while digging out the one on the first picture, a HUGE spider came out, it was about 1" in diameter and pretty fat... I did scream, but killed it shortly after... and took a picture :-D

Por ultimo... Las desagradables sorpresas que encontre... ADVERTENCIA: No sigan dandole para abajo si se asquean facilmente o si le tienen miedo a las aranas!!!

Estoy casi segura de que estas cosas son algun tipo de hongo, pero yo nunca habia visto algo parecido... y se veian super asquerosos!!! Me puse mis guantes para jardineria y los escarbe, poniendolos en una bolsa de plastico inmediatamente, para que no se sigan extendiendo (o por lo menos eso creo yo). Y mientras estaba escarbando para sacar el de la primera foto, una arana SUPER grande salio, media como 1 pulgada de diametro y estaba muy gorda... Grite, pero la mate luego luego... y le tome una foto :-D

Last but not least (for now), I got 2 cute pots to place in my kitchen. I've been wanting to buy a couple of small plants for inside the house for a while, and I finally found the pots in the color that I wanted. I ended up getting Lavander... I hope it does well indoors :-S

Por ultimo (al menos por ahorita), compre 2 macetitas para poner en mi cocina. Handy Me

Almost since we moved into our house, a year ago, I knew that I wanted to install at least 1 more shelf in the laundry room's closet, and this weekend, I finally did.

We went to Lowes on Saturday and for around $30 we got everything I needed to install it. I started yesterday and then realized I needed a few extra things, so I went today and returned 1 support beam and bought the little hooks for the back of the shelf.

We also moved the kennels into here, because last weekend we finally bought a table for our dining room (yes, just the table so far... I ordered 2 chairs for the ends, but I still need to buy the other ones), and we bought a trash can with lid to put the dog food in and keep it fresh :-)

Casi desde que nos cambiamos a nuestra casa, hace un anio, me di cuenta de que necesitaba al menos otro estante en el closet del cuarto de lavar, y este fin de semana, finalmente lo instale.

Fuimos a Lowes el Sabado, y por $30 aproximadamente compramos todo lo que necesitaba para instalalo. Empece ayer y me di cuenta de que necesitaba algunas cosas extras, asi que hoy fui a devolver una de las varillas de soporte y compre unos ganchitos para la parte de atras.

Tambien movimos las jaulas de las perras ahi, porque el fin de semana pasado finalmente compramos la mesa para el comedor (si, nada mas la mesa, aunque ya ordene las sillas para las cabeceras, pero me falta comprar las otras), y compramos un bote de basura con tapa para poner la comida de las perras y mantenerla fresca :-)

Rugs

I have been looking for doormats for out house, and I've found some nice ones that I really, really liked, but of course, they were like $90... And at this point, we still have too many things to buy for our house to drop that kind of money on each of our rugs... So, I got this one from Target for our front door, I think it was about $24.

Then, I figured I would prefer neutral, solid color rugs for the inside of the house (I got 2 brown ones and a tan one), and found the other ones at Walmart for around $6!!! Not bad!!!

He estado buscando tapetes para la entrada desde hace un buen, y he encontrado unos que me han gustado mucho, pero claro, costaban como $90... Y ahorita todavia necesitamos bastantes cosas para la casa como para gastar tanto en cada tapete... Asi que compre este de Target para la puerta de la casa, se me hace que costo como $24.

Despues, decidi que preferiria tapetes de un solo color, neutrales para adentro de la casa (compre uno cafe y otro como beige), y encontre estos en Walmart por $6!!! Nada mal!!!

About 2 weeks ago I noticed that my plants were starting to come out!!! I was very excited and took some pictures, but never uploaded them...

Today we went to Walmart (yes, yes, I know :-S) and we bought some cute garden lights, that can be either turned on in a white light or a color changing setting.

We got 12 of them, I wanted to place some of them in the flower bed and John wants to put some around the driveway, I was unsure about that, and none of our neighbors have them around their driveway, so I'm thinking about where to put the rest of them, should it be on either side or the driveway or around the patio in the backyard (if we put them in the driveway, I think I'll buy some additional ones for the patio)??? What do you think???

Hace como 2 semanas note que mis plantas estaban empezando a salir!!! Me dio mucho gusto y tome unas fotos, pero se me habia pasado subirlas...

Hoy fui a Walmart (si, si, ya se :-S) y compramos unas lamparas para jardin que nos gustaron, y que prenden en luz blanca o cambiando de colores.

Compramos 12, yo queria poner unas en la jardinera y John queria ponerlas alrededor del area de estacionamiento de los carros, yo no estaba muy segura de hacer eso, y ninguno de nuestros vecinos tiene lamparas alrededor de su estacionamiento, asi que estoy pensando en donde poner el resto de las lamparas, alrededor del estacionamiento, o en el patio de atras (si las ponemos en frente yo creo que de todas maneras voy a comprar mas para poner atras)??? Que les parece???

Long time... No deck stain...

After all the rain in October, we finally got around to cleaning our deck, in preparation to staining it, last weekend... we still haven't made it to staining it, but hopefully that will happen sooner than later and (crossing fingers) it won't be so long that we'll have to clean the deck again before we do it :-S

John put the cleaning solution on, and I rinse the whole thing off 3o minutes later :-)

Despues de toda la lluvia en Octubre, finalmente logramos limpiar la madera de la terraza, en preparacion para pintarla, el fin de semana pasado... todavia no la pintamos, pero espero que eso suceda pronto y (haciendo changuitos) no pase tanto tiempo que la tengamos que limpiar otra vez antes de pintar :-S

John le puso la solucion para limpiarla, y yo a enjuague 30 minutos despues :-)

We have a fence!!!

Our fence was finally installed today!!! When it finally stopped raining (mostly) for a couple of days...

I got home around 12:30 when they were about 80% done, but I took some pictures in progress any way :-)

I'm still getting used to how it looks with a fence now (for before pictures, click here). We're pretty happy to have it installed now, even though it is now evident that our sod doesn't go to the end of our property on either side and our grass got a bit mangled from the process :-(

So here are some pictures (maybe 15 more than necessary, but what ever :-D), introducing: the fence!!! :-)

Hoy instalaron nuestra reja por fin!!! Cuando finalmente dejo de llover (o por lo menos no llovio tanto) durante un par de dias...

Llegue a la casa como a las 12:30 y ya llevaban como el 80% de la reja puesta, pero de todas maneras tome unas fotos del proceso :-)

Todavia me estoy acostumbrando a como se ve con la reja ahora (para fotos de antes, picale aqui). Estamos muy contentos de que ya este instalada, aunque ahora es evidente que les falto ponernos unos pedazos de pasto en ambos lados del terreno y aunque el pasto se danio un poco durante el proceso :-(

Y aqui van unas fotos (tal vez 15 fotos mas de las necesarias pero ni pex :-D), presentando: la reja!!!

I've been wanting to post a picture of the general area where I live specially to give my friends that live far away an idea of it.

We live around the area on the top left where the pink dot is, about 9 miles away from the Missouri River, and only a few miles from the Busch Wildlife Reserve, which is almost 7000 acres and has around 38 lakes!!!!!

It's a really calm, quiet area, and hopefully it'll stay that way for years to come :-)

He estado queriendo postear una foto del area donde vivo en general especialmente para que mis amigos que viven lejos se den una mejor idea.

Vivimos cerca del area donde esta un punto rosa en la esquina superior izquierda, aproximadamente a 9 millas del Rio Missouri, y a unas cuantas millas de la Reserva Ecologica Busch, que consiste de casi 7000 acres y tiene como 38 lagos!!!

Es un area super tranquila y sin ruido, y espero que siga asi muchos anios :-)

Halloween

We went to Target on Sunday to get some Halloween Decorations, I told John that we should only buy a few and I'll buy more the day after Halloween for next year :-) So we already have some items on our wish list :-)

So far we already bought 2 tombstones, 2 sets of lights (we're thinking about buying a couple more), and a pumpking that you can conect and has a light inside.

I think we'll go this weekend or next week to Rombach's to get our real pumpkins... And I want to get some hay :-D

El domingo fuimos a Target a comprar decoraciones de Halloween, yo le dije a John que nada mas compraramos poquitas cosas y que podemos comprar mas el dia despues de Halloween para el anio que viene :-) Asi que ya tenemos algunas cosas en nuestra lista :-)

Hasta ahorita ya compramos 2 placas para tumbas, 2 juegos de luces (estamos pensando en comprar otras 2), y una calabaza electrica.

Yo creo que este fin de semana o la semana que viene vamos a ir a la Granja Rombach a comprar nuestras calabazas de verdad.... Y quiero comprar paja :-D

As you can probably tell, I get Grandin Road's catalog all the time (I think it's from when I bought an air bed from Sky Mall when I was moving to STL), and a few months ago we saw the fountain that appears on the first picture, which made me think about getting one for our back yard... We're not getting one any time soon (I don't think... and the reason is... we're putting in a fence soon, which is another post on it's own, by the way), but that doesn't mean I can post about it :-)

Como se habran dado cuenta, me llega el catalogo de Grandin Road seguido (creo que empezo cuando compramos el colchon inflable de Sky Mall cuando me iba a cambiar a STL), y hace unos meses vimos la fuente que aparece en la primera foto, lo que me hizo pensar en poner una fuente en nuestro patio de atras... No vamos a comprar una fuente pronto (o por lo menos no creo... y la razon es... que estamos en el proceso de poner cerco, lo cual merece un post para ese tema unicamente), pero eso no quiere decir que no pueda postear al respecto :-)

Oops, I got confused we ARE actually getting the Huntleigh, and NOT the Hartford LOL John says he likes the Hartford because it has less space in between the pickets (but of course it's less than the "mandatory" 3 inches)...

Oh, and Tessa, we wanted the Chesterfield for privacy, even if it was only 4 feet tall... but we can't even get that type because of the HOA rules :-S

We got the city approval yesterday and we should getting the fence installed on Friday... IF it doesn't rain...

The Fence Post

Ever since we moved into our house 6 months ago (whoa... time flies!!!) we've been planning on getting a fence so we can let the girls go outside with any worries, specially since we noticed that one of our neighbors on the street behind ours puts his pitbull outside (sorry pitbull lovers, but this one in particular scares the shit out of me!!!) on a "leash" and leaves him there charging toward us and our dogs when they're outside...

We were actually planning to install it ourselves but as the day grew nearer I kind of figured that it was a bit too much for us...

So we finally started getting quotes last month and I almost fainted when we got them!!! I'll explain: in California people usually have 6' walls or wooden fences around their back yards and usually all the way to the front of their houses (they end at the front of the house as opposed to here in Missouri where most people don't even have a fence and the fence it's only allowed to go to the back of the house, in some areas... like in ours), and we're used to having that kind of privacy where you can basically do what ever you want in your backyard without anyone knowing or bugging you about it... So originally I wanted a privacy fence as shown on the first picture... BUT, I knew that our HOA only allows fences that are 4' tall max, so I thought about getting a privacy fence with a lattice (I was planning on risking it not getting approved by the HOA and send this request for approval first), which would give us a little bit more privacy and hopefully it would've been approved by the HOA... but then we went to get the quotes... You see people, we need around 232 ft. of fence, and that's A LOT of cash...

For the option with lattice, if I remember correctly, we got quoted $11,000+!!!!! And for the one without it about $8000 (I think)... We considered other possibilities (i.e. wood), but I REALLY don't want to have to stain it or paint it every so often, and I don't like the look much, either (personal preference I guess)... But then (lucky us) I also read our HOA rules and it states that on top of the "no taller than 4' rule" they even had a rule about the picket spacing, which should be "no less than 3 inches", so I kind of figured that if they were THAT specific with the rules there was no use in submitting the fences I knew were not allowed for approval... plus they were so damn expensive...

We talked with our fence consultant and he proposed the Hartford, since it already "includes" the 3" spacing (I guess that means that it doesn't need to get customized), but for some reason I thought it looked more like the Huntleigh... and now I'm second guessing myself... ugh... since I have a square engineer's brain and like more "symetric" and proportioned stuff, and yes, I know it's technically symetric, but it just looks weird to me... And because they don't have to do anything to it, it's "only" $5500 :-S It's just a fence after all, right??? A fence that's going to last a life time though :-S ... Hmmm... Oh, and we're going with the flat post ends, not the gothic ones.

What do you think? Do you like it or do you like the Huntleigh more? :-S I think I'm going to end up going to check out the model in person tomorrow, just to make sure...

Desde que nos cambiamos a la casa hace 6 meses (se ha pasado el tiempo volando!!!) hemos querido poner cerco en el patio de atras para poder dejar salir a las perras sin preocupaciones, sobre todo cuando notamos que uno de nuestros vecinos de la calle de atras saca a su pitbull (disculpas a los amantes de los pitbulls, pero este perro en particular me da un chorro de miedo) y lo deja ahi solo amarrado, mientras se nos trata de aventar a nosotros o a las perras cuando estan afuera...

Estabamos planeando instalarla nosotros mismos, pero mientras mas se acercaba el dia me di cuenta que iba a ser un proyecto demasiado grande para nosotros 2...

Total que el mes pasado empece a pedir presupuestos casi me desmayo!!! Me explico: veran, en California (y en Tijuana) uno esta acostumbrado a tener bardas o cercos altos en el patio de atras, y usualmente llegan hasta el frente de la casa (en California estan al parejo de donde termina la parte de en frente de la casa, a diferencia de Missouri donde mucha gente no tiene cercos y llegan a la parte trasera de la casa solamente, debido a las reglas de la comunidades... como la nuestra) y nosotros estamos acostumbrados a tener ese nivel de privacidad donde puedes hacer lo que quieras en tu patio y nadie se da cuenta o te molesta al respecto... Asi que originalmente yo queria un cerco de "privacidad" (asi les dicen) como el de la primera foto... PERO yo ya sabia que nuestra asociacion de vecinos no permite poner rejas de mas de 4 pies de alto, asi que se me habia ocurrido mandar la propuesta de proyecto con esa reja de 4 pies mas un enrejado en la parte superior como en la segunda foto (yo estaba planeando en arriesgarme y mandar esa propuesta primer para ver si era chicle y pegaba), lo cual nos daria un poco mas de privacidad y ver si la asociacion de vecinos lo aprobaba... pero entonces nos dieron los presupuestos... Veran, tenemos que comprar aproximadamente 71 metros de reja y eso es mucho dinero...

Por la opcion con el enrejado nos dieron un estimado de 11,000+ dolares!!!!! Y la que no tiene el enrejado como 8000 (creo)... Consideramos otras posibilidades (como madera) pero la verdad es que yo no quiero tener que andar laqueando o pintando cada cierto tiempo, y tampoco me encanta como se ve (preferencia personal)... Pero entonces (para nuestra "suerte") lei en el manual de la asociacion de vecinos que ademas del requisito de no mas alta que 4 pies, tambien especifican que cada palo debe de estar a no menos de 3 pulgadas de distancia, asi que me imagine que si eran tan especificos con el espaciamiento ni para que mandar las propuestas de las rejas que no iban a aprobar... ademas de que estaban tan caras...

Hablamos con nuestro "consultor" de la compania que instala las rejas y nos recomendo el modelo "Hartford" que incluye el espacio de 3 pulgadas (me imagino que eso de "incluye" significa que no tienen que hacerlas especiales a la medida) pero por alguna razon pense que se parecian mas al modelo "Huntleigh"... y estoy empezando a dudar de mi decision... chin... y como tengo la mente cuadrada de ingeniero como que se me hace que no son simetricas o que no estan bien proporcionadas, ya se que tecnicamente si estan simetricas pero se me siguen haciendo "raras"... Debido a que no les tienen que hacer nada "solo" nos van a costar $5500. Es solo un cerco, verdad??? Un cerco que va a durar toda la vida :-S... Hmmm... Ah, y pedimos las tapas planas para los postes, no las goticas...

Ustedes que creen? Les gusta mas modelo Hunteigh??? :-S A mi se me hace que voy a terminar yendo a verlo en persona manana nada mas para asegurarme...

Nos llego la aprobacion de la asociacion de vecinos el Jueves, y ya nada mas estamos esperando el permiso de la ciudad!!!

The items I bought from Red Envelope got here on Wednesday I think, I put the candelabra in its new home right away, and I even started hanging the picture frames... but I ran into a big problem :-( The wonderful instructions that came with it didn't specify what drill bit size to use, so I used one smaller than 1/4" from the look of the plastic anchors, the weird thing is that I even had to use a hammer to put them in because they were such a tight fit on the wall, but when I started putting the supports for the poll using the drill, the screws pushed the anchors INSIDE the wall!!! My theory is that the "walls" of the anchors that keep it on the external side of the wall are not big enough, and their diameter is too similar to the anchor's body... So I need to figure out a way to fix that... Hmmm... Or I could go to Lowes and see if they sell anchors that are the same size but have a bigger "ring" surface... Aha!!! Problem (almost) solved!!! I will post pictures of that as soon as I get it up.

During the week I also saw that Pottery Barn had a sale, and a table clock that I had been eyeing was really inexpensive now, so I bought it, and it's now gracing one of the end tables :-)

Las cosas que compre en Red Envelope llegaron el miercoles, se me hace, y puse el candelabro en su nueva casa inmediatamente, y hasta empece a colgar los marcos para las fotos, pero tuve un GRAN problema :-( Resulta que las super instrucciones no especificaban que tamano de broca usar, y viendo el tamano de las "anclas" (como se llaman? Taquetes?), decidi usar la broca de menos de 1/4 de pulgada, y parecia que iba bien porque hasta batalle para meter las anclas y use un martillo para ponerlas, pero a la hora de empezar a poner los soportes para la varilla en la que se cuelgan los marcos usando el taladro como desarmador, las anclas se METIERON a la pared!!! Mi teoria es que las anclas estan mal disenadas y las "paredes" que le permiten permanecer en la parte exterior de la pared estan demasiado cortas o que el diametro es muy similar al diametro del cuerpo del ancla... Asi que necesito ver como arreglar eso... Mmmm... Podria ir a Lowes y ver si tienen anclas de ese tamano en las que tengan la superficie del "anillo" mas grande!!! Aja!!! Problema (casi) resuelto!!! Voy a postear fotos ya que este colgado...

Durante la semana tambien mire que Pottery Barn estaba teniendo una especial y un reloj de mesa que habia estado mirando durante un tiempo estaba super barato, asi que lo compre, y ahora esta sobre una de las mesas en la sala :-)

Last Thursday John and I were walking our dogs when we came back home and he was giving me the keys so I could do another lap and get in the house without having to call him (long story), when we noticed that there was a SINK HOLE on our front yard!!!

I'm surprised we remained so calm, but I took the dogs for their other lap and after getting back I called our Field Manager to let him know about it, he called me back first thing Friday morning after inspecting the site and he made me feel better when he told me it was just the dirt settling and that there was no water or sewer leaks!!!

When we came home on Thursday afternoon the sinkhole was fixed!!! Now we just need the new grass to get green :-)

El jueves pasado John y yo fuimos a llevar las perras a caminar y cuando regresamos a la casa y el me estaba dando las llaves para que yo les diera otra vuelta y no tuviera que llamarle cuando regresara a la casa (es una larga historia) notamos que habia UN HOYO en nuestro jardin!!!

Estoy sorprendida de que permanecimos bastante tranquilos, todavia fui y les di la otra vuelta a las perras y cuando regrese le llame al Gerente de Campo de la constructora y le deje un mensaje, el me llamo a primera hora el viernes despues de haber inspeccionado el agujero para darme la buena noticia de que nada mas era la tierra asentandose y no habia una fuga de agua o de drenaje!!!

El jueves que regresamos del trabajo ya estaba arreglado el hoyo!!! Ahora nada mas tenemos que esperar a que el nuevo pasto se ponga verde :-)

I got a $50 from my credit card reward's program, so I went to spend it to one of my favorite stores, Target :-)

I wanted to get a few things: a few plastic totes for storage, some kind of broom/mop organizing rack and, when I told John I was on my way there, he put up his puppy eyes and asked for a lamp for the basement :-)

I had found other "tool storage units" online that were more expensive, and I originally grabbed 4 plastic totes (which were on sale at $6.44 by the way), but decided to leave 1 tote behind, get a cheaper holder ($7.99) since we really didn't need the extra storage space at this point (we don't have shovels, or anything like that yet) and buy my baby his lamp ($24.99 or so).

Grand total = $56 ($6 after the gift card, can't beat that!!!).

Habia encontrado otras "unidades para guardar herramientas" en linea que estaban mas caras, y primero habia agarrado 4 cajas de plastico (que por cierto estaban en especial a $6.44), pero deje 1 de ellas, agarre otro estante para las escobas mucho mas barato ($7.99) y le compre su lampara a mi amorcito (costo como $24.99).

You might remember that we purchased our living room furniture (sofa and chair) from Macys, we were supposed to have it delivered July 8 if I remember correctly, it was a Wednesday and even though I asked them to deliver it after 4, a few days before they called me and left a message that they would deliver them between 11 and 1 BUT they also gave John a call and told him they would be there between 12 and 2... Long story short, they showed up at 11, John was leaving work early, and had to take 4 hours of vacation to be a the house for that, but when he finally got home, according to the schedule that he was given, the delivery guys had left :-(

John was upset about having to take the vacation time unnecessarily, and I was a bit disappointed that we wouldn't receive our furniture until we came back from vacation... So when I got a survey regarding the furniture and the service I did mention those things... And we ended up getting a $125 gift certificate for the inconvinience!!!

So I headed to Macys on Monday, I originally wanted to buy this candleholders, and I saw that they had a cutlery set on sale for $39.99, so I figured I could buy both with my GC... But when I got there on Monday they didn't have the candleholder size I wanted and were no longer on sale and the set wasn't on sale any more either :-( So I paid the regular price for the cutlery set and left...

I went back today because I figured what else to buy with the GC (some kitchen utensils), and when I got to the Home Department I saw that the cutlery set was BACK on sale!!! I got money back from that and purchased 2 extra pillows for our new bed :-)

I'm a happy camper!!!

Tal vez recuerden que compramos los muebles para la sala (el sofa y el sillon) en Macys, y se suponia que nos los iban a entregar el 8 de julio si no mal recuerdo, era un Miercoles y aunque les pedi que nos los entregaran despues de las 4, unos dias antes llamaron y dejaron un mensaje diciendo que iban a traerlos entre 11 y 1, PERO tambien le llamaron a John y le dijeron que iban a estar aqui entre 12 y 2... Para no hacerla larga, llegaron a la casa a las 11, John se salio del trabajo temprano (tuvo que tomar 4 horas de tiempo de vacaciones para eso), pero para cuando llego a la casa, de acuerdo al horario de entrega que le habian dado a el, los del servicio de entrega ya se habian ido :-(

John se medio awito de haber tenido que tomar tiempo de vacaciones para nada, y yo estaba un poco decepcionada porque ibamos a tener que esperar hasta que regresaramos de San Diego para que nos trajeran los muebles... Asi que cuando me mandaron una encuesta sobre el servicio y mencione esas cosas... Y nos dieron un certificado de regalo por $125 por el inconveniente!!!

Asi que el lunes fui a Macys, originalmente queria comprar estos candelabros, y vi que tenian un juego de cuchillos en especial a $39.99 asi que pense en comprar ambas cosas con la tarjeta de regalo... Pero cuando llegue a la tienda, no tenian el tamano de candelabro que yo queria y los cuchillos ya no estaban en especial :-( Asi que pague el precio normal por los cuchillos y me fui.

Hoy regrese porque ya sabia que iba a comprar con el certificado de regalo (unos utensilios de cocina), y cuando llegue al departamento de cosas para la casa vi que el juego de cuchillos estaba en especial de nuevo!!! Me regresaron la diferencia y con eso compre 2 almohadas mas para nuestra cama nueva :-)

There's a few things that as a new homeowner you have to do that are not as cool, fun or enjoyable as others, but have to get done to ensure that the house you're paying for remains in good condition...

A couple of weekends ago, I tackled 1 of them: sealing the driveway. To the untrained eye ;-) these pictures of the house look the same as previous ones, but I know that I went to Lowes, bought cement sealant and later on, swept and hosed down the drive way, and once it dried I applied it with a roller (just like paint), you can't tell on the photos, but in person it looks a bit shinier... And hopefully this will help so that the salt doesn't get into the cement, and we can have a crap free driveway for years to come :-)

Hay algunas cosas relativas a ser dueno de una casa nueva que no son tan curadas, divertidas o disfrutables como otras, pero que se tienen que hacer para que la casa que estas pagando se mantenga en buenas condiciones...

Hace un par de fines de semana, me encargue de 1 de ellas: sellar la rampa de la entrada. A simple vista estas fotos de la casa se ven identicas a las que he posteado antes, pero yo se que fui a Lowes, compre sellador para cemento y despues barri y limpie con agua la entrada, y ya que se seco le aplique el sellador con un rodillo (como si fuera pintura), no se nota en la foto, pero en persona se mira un poco mas brilloso que antes... Y espero que esto vaya a ayudar a que la sal (que echan cuando neva) no se meta al cemento, y tengamos una entrada libre de grietas durante anios :-)

I went to Home Goods on Friday to look for a glass canister because I got a $50 gift card... but ended up spending way more than that :-S

I got a set of kitchen towels, a set of finger tip towels, a bag of seashells, a metallic decorative jar (it'll be used in the living room), 2 leather trunks (decoration for the guest bedroom) and 4 Euro Pillow and a sheet set (both for the guest bedroom), but I think I'm going to return the sheets because they don't look that great with the comforter we already had for that room... Oh well...

El viernes fui a Home Goods para buscar un frasco de vidrio porque tenia un certificado de regalo de $50... pero termine gastando mucho mas de eso :-S

Compre un set de toallas para la cocina, un juego de toallas para la cara, una bolsa de conchitas, un frasco metalico (para decorar la sala), 2 baules de piel (para decorar el cuarto de visitas) y 4 almohadas cuadradas y un juego de sabanas (para el cuarto de visitas), pero creo que voy a regresar las sabanas porque no se ven muy bien con la colcha que ya teniamos... Ni modo...

I wanted to get something to hold our garden hose, since we bought a super long one so we can reach around the house when we need to.

I had found 2 that I REALLY liked from Frontgate, I originally wanted one similar to the one that sits on the floor but nailed to the wall, but when John and I were talking he said he didn't want to nail anything to our siding, which makes sense, so I found the second one, also from Frontgate... BUT, I couldn't justify spending a lot of money on it (the first one is $330, on "sale" right now for $300, and the second one is $200, on sale for $180)... So the other day we went to Lowes and saw the last one (last 2 photos), which might not be as pretty, but it only cost $32 :-)

Queria algo para poner la manguera del patio, porque compramos una super larga para que alcanzara a darle la vuelta a la casa si necesitamos.

Encontre 2 que me gustaron MUCHO de Frontgate, yo originalmente queria una similar al de la primera foto pero para ponerlo en la pared, pero cuando hable con John el dijo que no queria clavar nada en el material que recubre la casa, y tiene razon, asi que encontre el segundo, tambien de Frontgate... PERO, no podia justificar gastar mucho dinero en esto (la primera cuesta $330, y ahorita esta en "especial" a $300, y la segunda cuesta $200, en especial a $180)... Asi que el otro dia que fuimos a Lowes vimos esta (en las ultimas 2 fotos), que no estara tan bonita, pero solo costo $32 :-)

New acquisitions

I'm about 90% done with the living room now!!! Well, I just need to receive these items and see how they look together and if everything works out together, and I'll be very close to "done" with that room!!!

I wanted to buy both of these quickly before they got discontinued, so I ordered the end table from Target, and luckily it's only $90 AND I got a 15% discount for spending more than $125.

Ya voy como en el 90% de decorar la sala!!! Bueno, nada mas me falta que me lleguen estos articulos y que se vea bien todo junto, y estare muy cerca de "terminar" esta area!!!

Queria comprar estas 2 cosas rapidamente antes de que las descontinuaran, asi que ordene la mesita de Target, y afoturnadamente nada mas cuestan $90 y habia un 15% de descuento por gastar mas de $125.

I guess this is the unpleasant part of being a homeowner: Last Sunday John and I were outside on the patio, when he called his sister, so we were hanging there longer than usual and I sat down on the floor... When I looked to the left I saw a wasps nest under the deck staircase!!! Yuck!!! The worse part: It wasn't the only one!!! There was a second one on one of the upper steps!!!

So today, I went to Lowes and bought some poison spray... 2 cans of it. We waited 'til around 8 PM since the wasps are less active at night (found that info online) and sprayed both nests simulteneously!!!

We're leaving the nests there until Sunday, because the cans said the poison will even kill the wasps that come back in the next few days and then I think I'm going to beat them down with a broom stick :-D

Esta es la parte de tener tu propia casa que no es tan agradable: El domingo pasado John y yo estabamos afuera en el patio, cuando le llamo a su hermana, y como nos quedamos afuera mas rato de lo normal yo me sente en el piso... Y cuando mire a la izquierda vi que habia un nido de avispas abajo de la escalera!!! Guacala!!! Y lo peor: No era el unico!!! Habia un segundo nido en uno de los escalones de arriba!!!

Asi que hoy fui a Lowes y compre veneno en spray... 2 latas. Nos esperamos como hasta las 8 de la noche porque lei que las avispas son menos activas de noche (encontre ese dato en linea) y les echamos el veneno simultaneamente!!!

Vamos a dejar los nidos ahi hasta el Domingo, porque dice en las latas que el veneno va a matar a las avispas que regresen despues y creo que ese dia los voy a tumbar a escobazos :-D

We got a new mattress!!!

Two weeks ago John and I went to buy a new King Size mattress for our bedroom, basically because we were going to move our Queen Size mattress to the guest bedroom and we want to be ready in case anybody wants to come visit :-)

The mattress was delivered last Saturday and I've slept wonderfully since... No back pain at all!!!

We used to have a Posteurpedic mattress that still made my back hurt (but not John's) and we were planning on buying a Tempurpedic, but the sales guy showed us this mattress that's made by a company that used to devolope mattresses for burn patients, it has memory foam and no motion transfer (so you don't feel if the person next to you gets in or out of bed) and it's made out of bamboo and spandex so it's eco-friendly, and because of the material, it allows a better air flow through it, so you get less hot while you sleep (which is a HUGE possitive in John's book). Oh, and it also costs about half as the Tempurpedic (since they don't have a huge marketing budget)... And, to me, this mattress was comparable to the most expensive Tempurpedic model with pillow top, bonus!!!

I just want to say (maybe TMI) that this mattress is so comfortable that a girl can sleep on her stomach and not feel any pressure in "any" body part ;-). The brand is called Eco Memory Foam I think :-)

Hace 2 semanas John y yo fuimos a comprar un colchon tamano King nuevo para nuestro cuarto, basicamente para reemplazar el colchon tamana Queen que teniamos antes y que pasamos al cuarto de visitas porque queriamos tenerlo listo cuanto antes por si alguien quiere venir :-).

Nos entregaron el colchon el sabado pasado y he dormido super bien desde entonces, hasta ni me ha dolido la espalda para nada!!!

Antes teniamos un colchon Posteurpedic que aunque es bueno seguia haciendo que me doliera la espalda (pero a John no) y estabamos planeando comprar un colchon Tempurpedic, pero el vendedor nos enseno este colchon que es fabricado por una compania medica que hacia colchones para heridos con quemaduras, tiene foam con memoria, no transfiere el movimiento (o sea, no sientes si la persona que esta al lado se levanta o se acuesta) y esta hecho de bamboo y spandex que es un producto ecologico, y debido al material, el colchon deja pasar el aire a traves de el y por lo tanto a uno le da menos calor (punto super positivo para John). Ah, y tambien cuesta como la mitad que el Tempurpedi (porque no tienen un presupuesto altisimo para publicidad)... Y para mi, este colchon es tan comodo, como el mas caro de los modelos de Tempurpedic que tienen cubierta de almohada, bono!!!

Finalmente quiero decir (tal vez sea demasiada informacion) que este colchon esta tan comodo que hasta puede uno dormir de panza y no le duele "nada" ;-) Me parece que la marca es Eco Memory Foam :-)

Livingroom

Our livingroom furniture finally came in!!! Like almost always, when I first saw it in our livingroom I was a bit shocked (thought the "white" sofa is too ivory) but now looking at the photos I like the sofa and the chair way more!!!

I still need to decide on end tables (I'm almost sure they'll be wooden though, but I thought I wanted round tables and now I think I want square ones to kind of "match" the rectangular coffee table) and buy the table lamps (almost sure I'll buy ones I found at Crate & Barrel).

Finalmente llegaron los muebles de la sala!!! Y como casi siempre, cuando los vi por primera vez en nuestra sala quede en shock (se me hizo que el sillon "blanco" se ve demasiado ivory) pero ahora mirando las fotos me gustan mucho mas el sofa y la silla!!!

Todavia necesito decidir que mesitas quiero (estoy casi segura que van a ser de madera, pero creia que queria redondas y ahora pienso que mejor cuadradas para que "combinen" con la mesa de centro rectangular) y comprar las lamparas (que ya estoy casi segura voy a comprar unas de Crate & Barrel).

Basement

I completely forgot to post pictures of our basement sectional, probably because the only pictures that I've taken are pretty crappy :-) And since it's the hubs area (and we were out of town for a week and then I worked 25 hours this weekend) I haven't cleaned it up enough to take new photos.

Any way, here are some pictures, it gives you an idea of how the couch looks and the space it occupies... And also, that we still need A LOT of things for this area :-)

Se me habia olvidado completamente subir fotos del sofa del sotano, probablemente porque las unicas fotos que he tomado estan gachas :-) Y como es el area de John (y salimos de vacaciones 1 semana y este fin de semana trabaje 25 horas) no he limpiado lo suficiente como para tomar fotos nuevas.

Bueno, de todas maneras, por lo menos da una idea de como se ve el sofa y del espacio que ocupa... Y tambien de que todavia nos faltan MUCHAS cosas para este espacio :-)

Master Bathroom

We have a LARGE window in our master bedroom; when I decided on upgrading the bathroom, I had no idea that the upgrade included the window.

It was really nice at first because we could see a pond from it... but when they started building our new neighbors house, we new we had to do something about it. I didn't want blinds for this window, so we decided to buy some film to cover it, without making it dark.

I like how it looks although the film is less forgiving at night, we bought 2 rolls, you can find it at Sky Mall and the Improvements Catalog, they're the same money wise, but Improvements has a wider varitey of styles.

Tenemos una ventana SUPER grande en nuestro bano; cuando decidimos pagar por las cosas extras en el bano (como la tina), no teniamos la menor idea de que eso incluia la ventana.

Primero nos gusto mucho porque podiamos ver un laguito desde la ventana... pero cuando empezaron a construir la casa de al lado, supimos que teniamos que hacer algo al respecto. Yo no queria persianas para esa ventana, asi que decidimos comprar algo para cubrirla, sin oscurecerla.

Me gusta como se ve, aunque en la noche no se ve tan bien, compramos 2 rollos, y puedes encontrar este tipo de pelicula en Sky Mall y en el Catalogo Improvements, cuestan exactamente lo mismo, pero Improvements tiene mas variedad en los estilos.

The Great Room

We've also made some progress on the Great Room!!! We finally got the coffee table, and we've bought some decorating accents... We still need something for the mantle (I'm thinking about a big rectangular mirror) and a rug... I bought more curtains from JC Penney (but longer), and I even think the curtains make the dining chair covers look better :-)

Tambien progresamos con la Sala Familiar!!! Finalmente nos llego la mesa de centro, y compramos algunos adornos... Todavia necesitamos algo para arriba de la chimenea (estoy pensando en un espejo rectangular) y un tapete... Compramos mas cortinas de JC Penney (pero mas largas) y hasta creo que las cortinas hacer que los forros de las sillas del comedor se vean mejor :-)

Weekend Project: Painting

This weekend was dedicated to painting the living room and the guest bedroom.

I spoke too soon the other day when I said I chose the Vintage Map paint color, it ended up looking to bright (yeah, brighter than this) and I ended up choosing the color in the middle which is called Summer Sorbet, also by Vaspar.

I really like how it looks, but for some reason it doesn't look as good from outside the living room (like on the picture that Marley's on, where you can see the other color outside the living room)... I hope it looks good once the furniture is in.

In the guest bedroom we used Stardust Evening and I couldn't be happier with how it looks, it has some gray undertones but it's also a bit girly :-) I also started assembling the furniture to see how the paint will look with it... I'll post a picture later on once we're done with everything :-)

Este fin de semana nos dedicamos a pintar la sala y el cuarto para visitas.

El otro dia hable muy pronto cuando dije que iba a usar la pintura que se llama Vintage Map, pero cuando se seco se veia demasiado brillosa (mas que esta) asi que termine usando el color de en medio que se llama Summer Sorbet, tambien de Valspar.

Me gusta mucho como se ve, aunque no se por que, desde afuera de la sala no se ve tan bien (como en la foto donde sale Marley y que se ve el color que esta afuera de la sala)... Espero que se vea bien cuando pongamos los muebles.

En el cuarto de visitas usamos el color Stardust Evening y no podria esta mas contenta con como se ve, tiene unos tonos grisaceos pero tambien es femenino :-) Tambien empece a ensamblar los muebles para ver como se ven con la pintura... Despues posteare una foto ya con todo :-)

DIY - The bowl basket

I painted the bowl/basket this morning (or what ever this is), using silver spray paint so it'll match the rest of our stuff, you can't tell really well on the first picture but it used to be a dark bronze/brownish color. I'm very happy with the results :-)

Pinte esta canastita (o lo que sea), usando pintura de spray plateada para que combine con el resto de nuestras cosas, no se nota mucho en la primer foto pero originalmente era de color bronza oscuro o cafe. Y estoy muy contenta con los resultados :-)

Shopping Spree

Yesterday I enjoyed some girl time and shopping with my friend Mindy, we hit a furniture store and a bunch of other stores with decoration products, including Home Decorators, Home Goods, Pier One and Marshalls.

And we had a BUNCH of great finds!!! Like 2 sets of lamps for $240!!! And a bunch of other decorating items. I even found a little ottoman for the guest bathroom upstairs.

I even found the perfect credenza for the foyer and a really nice rug for the great room and I will go back for them shortly :-).

Ayer disfrute de tiempo con amigas y de compras con mi amiga Mindy, fuimos una muebleria y a un monton de tiendas con productos de decoracion, incluyendo Home Decorators, Home Goods, Pier One y Marshalls.

Y encontramos un MONTON de cosas curadas!!! Como 2 juegos de lamparas por $240!!! Y un monton de otras cosas para decorar. Hasta encontre un ottoman para el bano de visitas en el piso de arriba.

Tambien encontre el mueble perfecto para la entrada de la casa y un tapete para el cuarto familiar y voy a tener que regresar por ellos pronto :-).

Livingroom paint

Today I tested the 3 possible paint samples for the livingroom, I had liked Valspar's Martha Stewart Vintage Map paint for a while (first picture) and it was my favorite, I had also see another color named Summer Sorbet which I had been thinking it would be the winner since I got the samples, but when I went to get the samples to Lowes I saw a new color called Cake Stand Blue (second photo) and thought it was super cute, so I got it too.

I painted the 3 colors side by side (keep in mind that I already have curtains and we already bought the furniture for there), and it turns out that the Cake Stand Blue seems too light (left side sample); the Summer Sorbet has too much green on it (sample in the middle); and it seems like my favorite (right sample) will be a good match all around!!!

I want to paint this week before the furniture gets here!!! :-) I love working on our house :-D

Hoy probe 3 posibles muestras de pintura en la sala, desde hace mucho me gustaba un color de la coleccion de Martha Stewart the Valspar que se llama Vintage Map (en la primera foto) y era mi favorito, tambien habia visto otro color llamado Summer Sorbet que pense que iba a ganar cuando vi las muestras, pero cuando fui a Lowes por las muestras vi otro color llamado Cake Stand Blue (segunda foto) que se me hizo muy bonito, asi que lo compre.

Pinte con los 3 colores uno al lado del otro (tomen en cuenta que ya tengo cortinas y ya compramos los muebles para ahi), y resulto que el color Cake Stand Blue salio demasiado claro (es la muestra del lado izquierdo); el color Summer Sorbet tiene muchos tonos verdes (en medio); y parece que mi color favorito va a armonizar perfectamente con lo demas!!!

Quiero pintar esta semana antes de que lleguen los muebles!!! Me encanta trabajar en nuestra casa :-D

I made another trip to Lowes to get the other color sample that I thought would look good after trying the previous FOUR colors... And I think we have a winner for the Guest Bedroom color!!!

The color is called Stardust Evening and it's made by Valspar, it's the one on the far right, and I painted a bit next to the white trim to "see" the 2 finalists better :-)

Hoy hice otro viaje a Lowes para comprar otra muestra de color que pense que se iba a ver bien despues de probar los otros CUATRO colores... Y creo que tenemos un ganador para el color del cuarto de visitas!!!

El color se llama Stardust Evening y lo hace Valspar, y es el de la extrema derecha, y luego pinte a un lado de las orillas blancas para poder "ver" mejor los 2 colores finalistas :-)

I was in a meeting the other day... You can tell I was paying lots of attention because I started thinking about the decoration and layout for most of the tables, dressers, nightstands, consoles, etc. and made some drawings :-D

Since we still don't have this furniture and I still don't know exactly what I want for most of them I'm just leaving them as scribbles for now, once the ideas progress I'll make them prettier :-)

For the side tables: 2 lamps (I already found some at Crate and Barrel that I liked a lot), maybe some white coral and decorative boxes.

Need: 2 Candlesticks, a rectangular mirror (I wanted art, but instead the art will be in the living room) and either a fireplace screen (I'm leaning toward that) or some vases, we already have the picture frames :-)

Necesitamos: 2 candelabros, un espejo rectangular (yo queria una pintura, pero mejor vamos a poner la pintura en la sala) y una pantalla para la chimenea (que es lo que se me hace que quiero mas) o unos floreros, y ya tenemos los marcos de fotografias :-)

Random Projects

We've been working in different projects lately, I think we're going to paint the guest bedroom this weekend, so I bought a few samples (there are 4 color samples on this photo), I'm going with a color similar to the one on the far right, but a little bit darker (I'm going to buy it tomorrow and try it).

One of John's coworkers gave him a mirror, it was very nice and good quality, but the frame was gold, so I painted it with spray paint and we bought anchors to mount it and it's finally in the half bathroom.

I also bought 2 accent pillows for when our sofas for the living room come in (hopefully in the next week or so)... Don't worry, I'm not leaving the plastic bags over them :-D

And we bought the table for the living room too, we got it yesterday and we assembeled it today, unfortunatelly, I busted my lip while trying to open the box and take everything out :-S Ouch!!!

Hemos estado trabajando en diferentes proyectos ultimamente, y creo que este fin de semana vamos a pintar el cuarto de visitas, asi que compre unas muestras (en la foto hay 4 colores de muestras diferentes), voy a pintar con un color similar al de la extrema derecha, pero un poco mas oscuro (manana voy a ir a comprar la muestra y probarlo).

Una de las companeras de trabajo de John le regalo un espejo, esta bonito y de buena calidad, pero el marco era dorado, asi que lo pinte con spray y compramos unas anclas para montarlo y finalmente lo colgamos en el medio bathroom.

Compre 2 cojines para cuando llegue el sillon de la sala (yo espero esta semana que viene)... Pero no se preocupen, no los voy a dejar en las bolsas de plastico.

Y tambien compramos la mesa para la sala, nos llego ayer y la ensamblamos hoy, desafortunadamente, me revente el labio cuando estaba abriendo la caja y sacando las piezas :-S Ouch!!!

I wanted to recreate the layouts for the areas where the new furniture (already purchased or "soon" to be purchased) will be going, which has changed since the first time I made a preliminary layout.

So I posting the new proposed layout, plus some/most of the furniture I'm planning to use :-) I'm really excited about decorating and seeing how everything keeps coming together!!!

Queria recrear las configuraciones de las areas donde van a ir muebles nuevos (ya se que acabamos de comprar o lo que vamos a comprar "pronto"), las cuales han cambiado desde la primera vez que hice la configuracion preliminar.

Asi que estoy posteando la nueva configuracion, y ademas los muebles que pienso usar :-) Estoy muy contenta decorando y viendo como se ve todo junto!!!

We actually went to Macys last Saturday and bought this sofa and the blue chair!!! The lamps are from Crate and Barrel, the white leather chair is from Grandin Road, the table from CB2. I still haven't decided on the end tables (I liked 2 from Grandin Road, but now I think I want square tables) and I'm also planning on getting a floor lamp for next to one of the chair but haven't found one yet :-) Oh, and the art is from Home Decorators, I've loved it for a while now and I think it'll actually look pretty good here, what do you think?

El sabado fuimos a Macys y compramos este sofa y la silla azul!!! Las lamparas son de Crate and Barrel, y la silla de piel blanca is de Grandin Road, la mesa es de CB2. Todavia no me decido en las mesitas de los lados porque me gustaban unas de Grandin Road pero ahora estoy pensando que mejor quiero unas mesas cuadradas para ahi, y tambien estoy planeando comprar una lampara de piso para un lado de una de las sillas pero todavia no la encuentro :-) Ah, y el cuadro es de Home Decorators, me ha gustado desde hace unos meses y se me hace que se va a ver bien ahi, que les parece?

We actually got this furniture in already, but we haven't finished setting it up because we're still missing the coffee table (and half of the basement sectional, so we haven't moved the TV downstairs either), BUT, I think that my favorite layout (1) is NOT going to work because the sofa is too big and, where am I going to plug the table lamps, specially the one on the left??? But we'll see... It's not super hard to move the furniture around, so once the coffee table comes in, I'll post some pictures with the options.

Estos muebles ya nos llegaron, pero no hemos terminado de instalarlos porque todavia estamos esperando la mesa de centro (y la mitad del sofa seccional para el sotano, asi que tampoco hemos movido la tele a alla abajo), PERO, se me hace que mi configuracion favorita (1) NO va a funcionar porque el sofa esta demasiado grande y, donde voy a conectar las lamparas, especialmente la del lado izquierdo??? Pero ya veremos... No es muy dificil mover los muebles, asi que ya que llegue la mesa posteare algunas fotos con las opciones.

I think we're going to go with a rectangular dining table for 6, with a china cabinet and 2 chairs flanking the cabinet for when we have more people over :-) But I'm still not 100% commited to any dining room set... still looking :-)

Y esta es la configuracion para nuestra recamara, incluyendo la cama con postes, las mesitas de noche, 2 sillas para leer, una mesita, un ottoman y el chiffonier (no estabamos planeando tener una tele en nuestro cuarto, pero se me hace que voy a ceder y la vamos a poner arriba del chiffonier). These ones are from JC Penney and they're the ones we now have in our bedroom, they were back ordered so we were using the white ones in there until now... And I moved (including drilling the holes) the white ones to the 2 bedrooms in the back of the house :-)

I need your input. Part 2: Living Room

Ok here's my other dilema: today I had one of the designers from Ethan Allen come to the house to help me out with the living room and our bedroom, and I got very excited about her ideas... But, once she left I started looking through the website and putting a list together of the items that we discussed that would go into the living room the total would be, approximately, $8381 (without adding the extra costs for custom fabric or other things), and now that I put it together, I'm not sure if I love it THAT much :-S

The other part of the dilema is that I recently got an email from Macys that said they had a furniture on sale, and when I opened it up, I thought one of the sets was VERY cute!!! But I'm not sure if it's too trendy and I would get tired of it soon, or if it would be too much tufting for one area :-) But again, even if I bought that sofa and chair, plus the Grandin Road white leather chair that I LOVE and the side tables, plus the same coffee table from Ethan Allen, the total would come to around $3100!!! (And I could always find another coffee table that 's similar and not as expensive).

So once again, I need your opinion!!! Please leave a comment!!! Do you like either? Should I go ahead and buy the Macys option since it's on sale right now? Or should I keep looking???

Ok, aqui esta mi otro dilema: hoy vino a la casa una disenadora de Ethan Allen para ayudarme con la sala y nuestro cuarto, y me gustaron mucho sus ideas... Pero ya que se fue empece a buscar en la pagina de internet y hacer una lista aproximada de los muebles que menciono que podriamos poner ahi (al mismo tiempo) y el total seria, aproximadamente, $8381 (sin incluir las telas especiales que podria pedir y otras cosas), y ahorita que lo puse todo junto tampoco estoy segura si me gusta tanto :-S

La otra parte del dilema es que recientemente me llego un correo de Macys que decia que tenian una especial de muebles, y cuando me meti a la pagina vi un juego que me gusto MUCHO!!! Pero no estoy segura si este demasiado a la moda y se vaya a ver ridiculo en algunos anios :-) Pero igual, aunque comprar ese sofa y la silla, y la silla de piel blanca que me ENCANTA de Grandin Road y las mesitas de ahi mismo, y hasta la mesa de vidrio de Ethan Allen, el total seria de aproximadamente $3100!!! (Por supuesto que tambien podria buscar otra mesa de vidrio mas barata).

Asi que otra vez necesito tu opinion!!! Por favor dejen sus comentarios!!! Les gusta alguna de las 2? Compro la opcion de Macys ya porque esta en especial? O sigo buscando???

You might remember my first inspirations for our formal dining room, and I still REALLY like the idea of simpler side chairs, upholstered chairs on the head of the table and a rectangular pedestal table... But, it's REALLY hard to find something like it, that "matches" because as far as I can tell I would need to create my own combo... and I'm NOT that good :-D

Any way, my point is, I've found OTHER styles that I'm starting to like, and I found 1 in particular that I REALLY like (yeah, the word of the day is "really" LOL), but I have a "small" problem... I think that my favorite one is too expensive :-( I would've never considered buying a dining set that is this expensive, but the other day John said something about our (future) nice dining room furniture and that we could, eventually, pass it on to our (future) kids... And that got me thinking that if I want something that's heirloom quality (and that lasts until we're ready to give it to them), maybe we would have to spend a little bit more... But then, when I was showing John my favorite 2, he chose the OTHER one!!! He did say in the end that it's up to me, but I did tell him how much it cost and he also thought it was too much :-S

The thing is, the chairs are "on sale" for $1000 less than usual, so if I want to buy it, I think I should buy it soon to save that much... But even with that discount it costs $5000+... What do you think? Is that too much, average or ok? Am I just biased because furniture in Mexico is so much cheaper???

Puede que se acuerden de las primeras inspiraciones que tuve para el comedor formal de la casa, y REALMENTE me gusta la idea de sillas sencillas con sillas tapizadas mas formales en las cabeceras y una mesa rectangular con base de pedestales... Pero es REALMENTE dificil encontrar algo asi, que "combine" porque al parecer yo tendria que crear mi propia combinacion... y no soy tan buena :-D

Bueno, mi punto es, que he encontrado OTROS estilos que me estan empezando a gustar, y encontre 1 en particular que REALMENTE me gusta (si, la palabra del dia de hoy es "realmente" jajaja), pero tiene un pequeno problema... Se me hace que esta muy caro :-( Yo jamas hubiera considerado comprar este juego pero el otro dia, hablando de nuestro (futuro) comedor bonito dijo John que hasta podriamos dejarselo a nuestros (futuros) hijos... Y eso me hizo pensar que si va a hacer algo que valga la pena heredarles, tiene que ser de buena calidad (y que dure hasta que se los pasemos, no?), tal vez si deberiamos gastar un poco mas... Pero luego le estaba ensenando a John mis 2 comedores favoritos... y escogio el OTRO!!! Claro que cuando noto mi decepcion dijo que lo que yo quisiera pero le dije cuanto costaba y tambien se le hizo mucho :-S

Lo malo es que el juego de sillas esta en especial por $1000 menos de lo normal, y si lo quiero comprar, creo que lo deberia de comprar pronto para aprovechar... Lo malo es que hasta con ese descuento el juego completo cuesta mas de $5000... Que piensan? Se les hace muy caro, promedio o esta bien? O nada mas sera que mi perspectiva esta mal porque estoy acostubrada a que los muebles cuestan mucho menos en Mexico???

And this is my favorite, from Restoration Hardware (and YES, right now when I wrote how much the Zacara dining room would cost us I did wonder why am I even considering this one)... Oh yeah, and we can get it in Silver Sage (but the Zacara is also available in a similar color called Caribean Blue).

Y este es mi favorito, de Restoration Hardware (y SI, cuando escribi cuando pagariamos por el anterior si pense en por que lo estoy pensando 2 veces)... Ah, y tambien lo podriamos comprar en un color llamado Silver Sage (pero el comedor Zacara tambien lo podriamos pedir en un color similar llamado Caribean Blue).

Around the Neighborhood

When we moved into our house we only had neighbors on the right side (the first photo), now they're half was done with the house of our left and they're also working on the next one (one story house) and have poured the foundation to the one after that :-)

Now we even received an invitation for the First Annual Summer BBQ on May 30th!!!

Cuando nos cambiamos a nuestra casa nada mas teniamos vecinos del lado derecho (la primer foto), ahora ya van a medias con la casa a nuestra izquierda y tambien estan trabando en la que sigue (la de 1 piso) y pusieron los cimientos para la casa despues de esa :-)

Y ya hasta nos invitaron a la Primer Carne Asada Anual de Verano, el 30 de Mayo!!!

Our chairs didn't look terrible... but thanks to Mia's (our oldest dog) separation anxiety they needed some covers to look better, so I bought some chair covers from JC Penney for like $10 each!!!

It's time to cut the grass!!!

So, apparently, once Spring get here and the grass starts to grow, you have to mowe your lawn once or even TWICE a week when it starts to rain!!!

And yestarday, after having a lawn for a few weeks we went out to Sears to get our lawn mower and a weed wacker (we saved like $90 because they're having a sale). We went with Craftsman because we've heard good things about it, and we chose a Honda engine instead of the other option since we've also heard they tend to last longer (they're available with 2 different engine brands).

John and I mowed the lawn yesterday and I really like how it looks, plus, compared to a month ago, when the sod was just "installed", it looks much greener :-) Yay!!!

Aparentemente aqui en Missouri uno tiene que cortar el pasto una o hasta DOS veces por semana cuando llega la Primavera cuando empieza a llover!!!

Y ayer, despues de tener pasto por varias semanas fuimos a Sears a comprar la podadora de pasto y una maquina para cortar las orillas (y ahorramos como $90 dolares porque estan en especial). Escogimos una podadora Craftsman porque hemos oido cosas buenas sobre ellas, y el motor Honda porque tambien hemos escuchado que duran mas (vienen con 2 marcas de motor diferente).

John y yo cortamos el pasto ayer y me gusta mucho como se ve, ademas de que, comparado con hace un mes cuando a penas lo "instalaron" se ve mucho mas verde :-) Yay!!!

Living Room Curtains

On Saturday John and I installed our curtain rods and curtains in the living room... For some reason I had only bought 2 panels (I'm not sure if I thought it would look "cool" or if I had seen it somewhere), but when we put them up the looked a bit weird... So I went back to JC Penney that day and got the other two :-) Which way do you like it better???

En sabado John y yo instalamos los cortineros y las cortinas en la sala... One of the good things of decorating right now is that EVERYTHING'S on sale. I found the curtains I wanted for the living room and the hardware and I ordered it online from JC Penney.

I've been working odd hours and getting up between noon and 2:00 PM... Today I woke up at 3:00 (couldn't go to bed when I got home) and I woke up to see that ALL the sod had been installed!!! Yay!!!

PS Oh yeah, I realize that our mailbox is crooked :-S Maybe we'll fix it this weekend :-D

He estado trabajando horas raras y levantandome entre medio dia y las 2:00 de la tarde... Hoy me desperte a las 3:00 (no me podia dormir cuando llegue a la casa) y cuando me desperte ya habian instalado TODO el pasto!!! Yay!!!

Windows, Fans and Light Fixtures

Yeah, I know... What an exciting title :-D LOL Oh well... I couldn't come up with anything more creative at 5:00 in the morning...

Any who... We've been busy working around the house, and this last weekend we installed the fan in our bedroom (finally) and we bought the lamps for the 3 other bedrooms and installed them (it only cost us $25 for the 3 lamps since I had a $100 Lowes gift card from my credit card rewards), and we actually did it together, even standing on the latter at the same time, it was pretty cool :-)

Si ya se... Que titulo tan interesante :-D Jajaja Ni modo... No se me ocurrio nada mas creativo a las 5:00 de la manana...

Bueno... Nos hemos mantenido ocupados trabajando en la casa y este fin de semana pasado instalamos el abanico en nuestro cuarto (finalmente) y compramos las lamparas para los otros 3 cuartos (nada mas pagamos $25 porque tenia un certificado de regalos por $100 para Lowes con los puntos de mi tarjeta de credito), y de hecho todo lo instalamos juntos, hasta parados en la escalera al mismo tiempo muy curada :-)

I finally finished installing the roman shades... I think I'm going to make this room my office for now :-) This is the other room that faces the front of the house and it's the smallest room in the house.

This is one of the lamps that "came with the house", and I wanted something similar for the bedrooms, something simple and practical. I think I'll leave the decorative lamps for the nightstands :-)

I've started decorating other areas of the house, 2 days ago I hanged this 2 frames in the small (narrow) aisle on the first floor leading to the half bathroom. I've had these frames for a while, and we actually had 3 of them, but the glass on 1 of them broke during the move (we just discovered it when we moved to the house last week though) and I had "known" for a while that I wanted to used them here once we moved.

Ya empece a decorar otras areas de la casa, hace 2 dias colgue estos 2 cuadros en el pasillito que esta en el primer piso que da al medio bano. He tenido estos marcos desde hace tiempo, de hecho teniamos 2, pero el vidrio de uno de ellos se quebro durante la mudanza (a penas nos dimos cuenta ahora que nos cambiamos a la casa) y yo ya "sabia" que queria colgarlos en esta area una vez que nos cambiaramos a la casa.

I also hanged this ones in the half bathroom. I found them at JC Penney and fortunatelly they were 50% off!!! Not bad.

Tambien puse estos en el medio bano. Los encontre en JC Penney y afortunadamente estaban a mitad de precio!!! Nada mal.

As you can tell, we don't have a mirror in the half bathroom yet... And I thought I had found the perfect one... Until I saw how large it really it: 30 x 42"!!! I LOVE the hammered metal look, and I think it will look great when I eventually put the glass tile... But it seems that it's the only size that Pottery Barn carries :-( Does anybody know where else could I find something similar???

Como podran ver, todavia no tenemos un espejo en este bano... Y pensaba que habia encontrado el espejo ideal... Hasta que me fije en que tan grande esta: mide 30 x 42"!!! Me ENCANTA como se ve el metal amartillado, y creo que se va a ver muy bien cuando eventualmente instale el tile de vidrio... Pero parece que es el unico tamano que Pottery Barn tiene :-( Alguien sabe donde podria encontrar algo similiar???

We're starting to decorate!!!

I had bought a few things before moving, but I didn't go over board :-) So we started decorating today.

We also went to Lowes and bought 2 fans, one for the great room and the other for our bedroom; a latter, a leveler and some drill bits for my drill :-)

I'm still not 100% convinced about centering this one on top of the door (as opposed to the entire entrance), but it'll do for now.

I will try and post some more pictures tomorrow once we install the fans :-)

Habia comprado algunas cosas antes de cambiarnos para aca, pero no exagere :-) Asi que empezamos a decorar hoy.

Tambien fuimos hoy a Lowes y compramos 2 abanicos, uno para el cuarto familiar y el otro para nuestra recamara, una escalera, un nivelador y unas brocas para mi taladro :-)

Todavia no estoy 100% segura de si me gusta esta cosa centrada sobre la puerta (en vez de haberla centrado en la entrada en general), pero asi la voy a dejar por ahorita.

Voy a tratar de postear mas fotos manana, ya que hayamos instalado los abanicos :-)

First Pictures of Our Stuff in the House

Here go some pictures of the house with the furniture we currently own :-) Once we get the new set for the Great Room our couches will go to the loft (with some kind of covers). And I'm planning to either reupholster, buy some covers or at least trim the "skirts" of the breakfast table chairs (thanks to Mia).

In the long run we'll just have TVs in the basement and the loft, but John is working on figuring out if the 62" TV works with the HDMI cable so that he can use it with the PS3 downstairs or if he'll take the 47" one (plus we don't have any furniture down there right now :-D).

Please keep in mind that we took these pictures the first week we moved here, so there's still a lot of stuff out of place :-)

Aqui van algunas fotos de la casa con los muebles que tenemos ahorita :-) Ya que tengamos el juego de sala nuevo para el cuarto familiar estos sillones van a pasar a la estancia al segundo piso (con forros diferentes). Y estoy planeando retapizar las sillas del comedor, o comprarles forros o por lo menos cortarles la "falda" (gracias a Mia).

A largo plazo nada mas vamos a tener televisiones en el sotano y en la estancia, pero John esta tratando de ver si la tele de 62" funciona con el cable de HDMI para que lo pueda usar con el PS3 o si se va a llevar la tele de 47" para abajo (ademas de que ahorita no tenemos nada de muebles ahi :-D).

Por favor recuerden que tomamos estas fotos durante la primer semana de estar viviendo aqui, asi que todavia hay muchas cosas fuera de lugar :-)

Just a few pictures to compliment the videos :-) You can tell Spring is starting, everything's starting to get green again... I can't belive I've seen (part of) the 4 Seasons in Missouri already!!!

On a funny note, Mia felt very comfortable getting in and out of the truck while we were loading... Marley, not su much, I think that picture shows the furthest she went on the ramp, I think the noise scared her :-) Awww...

I specially like the last picture, the day was absolutely beautiful and not too cold or too warm... If our house had grass it could even be a Budget commercial :-)

Nada mas poquitas fotos para complementar los videos :-) Como podran ver ya se nota que esta empezando la Primavera, todo esta empezando a reverdecer... No puedo creen que ya he visto (parte) de todas las estaciones en Missouri!!!

Como nota chusca, Mia se sentia muy comoda subiendo y bajando del trailer mientras subiamos las cosas, Marley no tanto, se me hace que la foto muestra lo mas lejos que llego Marley en la rampa, se me hace que el ruido que ella misma hacia la asustaba :-) Awww...

A mi me gusta especialmente la ultima foto, el dia estaba absolutamente hermoso, no muy frio ni muy caliente y si nuestra casa tuviera pasto hasta para anuncio de Budget hubiera servido :-)

The day finally came, and we headed to the house for our final walk through, everything went great and from there we headed to the title company, which was about 2 miles away from our apartment (I REALLY liked the Chesterfield area, everything was so close by, and living there for the last 8 months), and I couldn't ask for more when it came to our closing day.

Everything went perfect!!! The service was great, there were no glitches, no delays, no paper work issues and we also received great news (I think) our house appraised for around $12K more than what we bought it for, so even if we tried to sell it today we would make some money!!! (I know it would be pretty hard to sell right now, and obviously we're not going to try to sell it right away, but it's good to know anyway).

And it only took us about 25 minutes to sign everything!!! And they even gave us a REALLY cute keychain with our house key in (1 for each of us) and 6 original spare keys. Best service ever!!! We're extremely satisfied with the service we received from everybody at The Jones Company and Centex!!! :-)

From there, we went to pick up the moving truck and begun to move!!!

Finalmente llego el dia y vinimos a la ultima inspeccion de la casa antes de cerrar el trato, todo estaba bien y de aqui nos fuimos a la oficina donde ibamos a firmar que estaba como a 3 kms. del departamento donde viviamos (la verdad si me gusto MUCHO vivir en Chesterfield porque todo me quedaba cerca y vivir ahi durante los ultimos 8 meses), y no podia haber pedido mas para el dia en que firmamos los papeles de la casa.

Todo estuvo perfecto!!! El servicio fue excelente, no hubo ningun problema, no hubo ningun atraso ni problemas de papeleo y tambien nos dieron una super buena noticia (yo creo) y es que la casa fue valuada en $12,000 dolares mas de lo que pagamos nosotros, asi que si quisieramos vender la casa hoy tendriamos una ganancia significativa!!! (Ya se que esta dificil vender ahorita, y tampoco es como que nos urja, pero siempre es bueno saber).

Y solamente nos tomo como 25 minutos firmar todo!!! Y hasta nos dieron un llavero super curiosito con las llaves de la casa (1 para cada uno) y 6 llaves originales extras. Es el mejor servicio que he recibido!!! Estamos super satisfechos con el servicio que hemos recibido de The Jones Company y Centex en general!!! :-)

De ahi fuimos a recoger el camion y empezo la mudanza!!!

Our first major purchase!!!

Today we made the first major for our house, and in the process, we met one of our new neighbors :-)

First we went to Lowes to buy our new fridge, washer, drier and mailbox, and the best thing was that I had a 10% off coupon :-) So was happy that we saved $175. We chose to go with less expensive appliances this time around since it's really our first home and we have a bunch of more furniture to buy, we can always upgrade later on :-)

Then we went to JC Penney and bought 7 white roman shades, I really liked the roman shades I found and I wanted to at least have window covers for all the windows in the front of the house, but now I think that when I go pick them up I'm going to buy another 2 for the master bedroom and use 2 of the white ones for the other 2 bedrooms that have windows towards the back of the house, since I like the simplicity of the roman shades and at least on our bedroom I might not layer the look like I will in the living room and the guest bedroom which is why I bought them white. While we were ordering the shades we gave our new address and a young woman said something like: "are you the people from the big bronw house?", we said yes and she said that she is the neighbor from the green house across the street, she seemed nice :-)

I can't wait to start decorating!!!

Hoy realizamos las primeras compras grandes para la casa, y en el proceso, conocimos a una de las vecinas nuevas :-)

Primero fuimos a Lowes a comprar el refrigerador, la lavadora, secadora y el buzon, y lo mejor es que yo tenia un cupon del 10% de descuento, asi que ahorramos como $175 dolares. Decidimos que esta vez ibamos a comprar electrodomesticos que no estuvieran tan caros porque a penas vamos empezando y tenemos mucha casa que amueblar, y siempre habra tiempo de comprar cosas "mejores" :-)

De ahi fuimos a JC Penney a comprar 7 cortinas romanas blancas que encontre y me habian gustado y que queria comprar pronto para por lo menos cubrir las ventanas que dan a la calle, pero se me hace que cuando las vaya a recoger voy a comprar otras 2 para nuestro cuarto y poner esas 2 en los cuartos que dan al patio de atras, porque si me gusta como se ven esas cortinas solas para nuestro cuarto, y tal vez no vaya a ponerlas en capas como en la sala o en el cuarto de visitas que es para lo que las compre blancas. Mientras estabamos ordenado, dimos nuestra nueva direccion y una mujer joven que estaba ahi dijo "ustedes son los de la casa cafe grande?" y dijimos que si, y nos dijo que ella es la vecina de enfrente de una casa verde, y se veia buena onda :-)

Our house is done!!! And we had a great house inspection!!!

I finally got out "your house is done" notification by email, but I knew our house is practically finished because we had our walk through and home inspection on Thursday.

Everything went GREAT, we marked up the areas we want the to touch up (mostly paint issues and some minor dings), the "major" issues were some tight windows, one window that had a scratch inside the double pane and one that got banged up when they poured the backyard patio... but they'll fix it before we move in and there was nothing really important wrong. Even our home inspector said that it was one of the best quality new homes he's seen, and that was good to hear.

We're not allowed to go into the house any more, but we'll be going for a final walk through on the 16 at 8, right before closing.

So far we're right on schedule to close in 9 days!!! And we can't wait!!!

Finalmente me llego el aviso de que nuestra casa ya esta terminada, claro que ya sabiamos porque el jueves fuimos a nuestra reunion a la casa y tuvimos la inspeccion tambien.

Nos fue SUPER bien, marcamos todas las areas que queremos que arreglen antes de que nosotros nos cambiemos (la mayoria eran detalles menores en la pintura y poquitas abolladuras en la pared), y lo "peor" estaba relacionado con las ventanas, 4 estaban muy apretadas, 1 tenia una raspada adentro del los 2 vidrios y 1 mas tenia un golpe en el marco por fuera que le hicieron cuando echaron el cemento en el patio de atras... pero todo lo van a arreglar antes de que firmemos y no hubo ningun problema mayor, ademas de que el inspector que contratamos dijo que es una de las casas nuevas de mejor calidad que le ha tocado ver, asi que valio la pena contratarlo nada mas para oir eso.

Ya no nos van a dejar entrar a la casa hasta el dia de la firma, pero ese dia a las 8 vamos a ir a revisar como dejaron todo lo que arreglaron.

Por como se ve ahorita, estamos a tiempo para cerrar el trato en 9 dias!!! Y no podemos esperar!!!

The house is almost done!!! We went today and it has REALLY come together now!!! It's kind of funny, but in the process I did second guess some of my decisions (specially the paint color, the flooring and the carpet), but now that it's all there I'm really happy about it and how it looks. And today we felt the new house smell (I think it was the carpet ;-) but that was cool too.

New this week: all the hardware on the cabinets, the house numbers on the outside, the outside door handle and lock, most of the AC vent covers are in (minus 1 in the laundry room), the inside doors are also installed again (again, the laundry room's door is missing the handle), and they also poured the cement in the patio in the backyard.

We only saw very few areas that will need to be addressed before we close and they're mainly minor paint issues, so maybe they'll be fixed before Thursday's Buyer Orientation :-) We'll see.

So here are some pictures we took this week, I think the house will pretty much look the same when we close, the irrigation system and the lawn will be installed (?) some time in the Spring :-)

Ya casi esta lista la casa!!! Fuimos hoy y REALMENTE ya se siente completa!!! Lo chistoso es que durante el proceso si pense varias veces que la habia regado en las opciones que escogi (especialmente en la pintura, el piso y la alfombra), pero ahora que esta todo junto estoy muy contenta de como se ve. Y hasta huele a casa nueva (se me hace que es la alfombra ;-) y eso tambien se me hizo curada!!!

Cosas nuevas esta semana: todas las agarraderas de los gabinetes, los numeros afuera de la casa, la cerradura de la casa, casi todas las tapas de las salidas del aire acondicionado (menos 1 en el cuarto de lavar), tambien las puertas interiores fueron reinstaladas (otra vez, la puerta del cuarto de lavar no tiene picaporte), y tambien echaron el cemento para el patio de atras.

Y nada mas notamos poquitas areas que van a necesitar arreglarse antes de cerrar el trato, y la mayoria son detalles pequenos respecto a la pintura, asi que igual y lo arreglan antes de la Orientacion al Comprador que vamos a tener el jueves :-) Ya veremos.

Asi que aqui van algunas fotos que tomamos hoy, yo creo que la casa se va a ver casi igual cuando nos la entreguen porque el sistema de irrigacion y el pasto los van a instalar (?) ya en la Primavera :-)

Official Update: It's almost complete!!!

As you can see, I received the official update from the builder saying they're done with the flooring!!! And that was the last "real" step before it's completely ready!!! I think that at this point they only need to do the last details or finishing touches: maybe install the hardware on the cabinets, put the house street numbers on, change the front door light fixture (they had a different one, I think that maybe because they haven't gotten ours yet) and clean up!!!

They still had a lot of cardboard on top of the floor and it was somewhat dusty... So I'm guessing that between today and next Thursday they'll take care of the last details!!!

I can't wait for the buyer orientation and see everything done!!! Less than 3 weeks for the move now!!!

Como podrán ver ya me mandaron la actualización de la constructora de la casa diciendo que ya terminaron de instalar el piso (básicamente la alfombra porque el otro piso ya estaba puesto)!!! Y este es el último paso "real" antes de que esté lista para la orientación!!! Yo creo que ahorita ya nada más les faltan detallitos como poner las agarraderas de los gabinetes, poner los números de la casa, cambiar la lámpara de la puerta principal (pusieron otra temporalmente yo creo que porque no les había llegado la de nosotros) y limpiar!!!

Todavía el sábado había cartón por todos lados cubriendo el piso, y estaba empolvado todo, pero yo creo que de aquí al jueves que viene pueden terminar todo!!!

Me estoy muriendo de ganas de que ya sea el póximo jueves para ir a la "orientación al comprador" y ver todo terminado!!! Ya faltan menos de 3 semanas para cambiarnos!!!

We went to the house today, like almost every Saturday, and the biggest change is the carpet!!! All of the carpet has been cutout and put in place, it just needs to get secured.

It's funny how a lot of something looks different than a little of it, since I don't remember it looked THAT gold when I saw the sample... But looking at the pictures, it doesn't look that bad, plus, like John said, the darker color will come in very handy with the dogs :-) I love how he always have something positive to say to make me feel better (since I pretty much picked out everything :-S).

The other change: we got our fake logs in the fireplace!!! :-P

Hoy fuimos a la casa, como casi todos los Sabados, y el mayor cambio es la alfombra!!! Ya cortaron toda la alfombra y la pusieron en los cuartos, ya nada mas falta que la aseguren en su lugar.

Se me hace chistoso como mucho de una cosa se ve diferente a poquito de la misma cosa, porque por ejemplo no me acuero que la muestra de la alfombra se viera tan dorada... Pero ya viendo las fotos no se ve tan mal, y como dice John, el color oscuro va a ser muy util con las perras :-) Me gusta como siempre encuentra algo positivo que decir para hacerme sentir mejor (sobre todo porque yo escogi casi todo lo de la casa :-S).

El otro cambio: ya nos pusieron los lenos de mentiras en la chimenea!!! :-P

Half Bathroom

Another area that I would like to decorate as soon as we move into the house is the half bathroom in the first floor since it's one of the most visible areas in the house and we'll need some extra storage for practical purposes.

And since it's REALLY small it shouldn't be too hard to complete this project. I've found some good ideas, but it looks like I'm going to have to pick and choose between them, which is not too bad since I could always use them in one of the OTHER 3 full baths :-)

Otra area que me gustaria decorar en cuanto nos cambiemos es el medio bano en el primer piso porque es una de las partes mas visibles de la casa y va a necesitar un espacio practico para guardar cosas.

Y como esta SUPER chiquito yo creo que va a ser facil terminar este proyecto. He encontrado algunas buenas ideas, pero parece que voy a tener que escoger entre ellas, lo cual no es tan malo consideranto que las podemos usar en uno de los OTROS 3 banos completos :-)

No, I don't like this wall paper, but this is the half bathroom of the model house (same floor plan as ours) that we saw, which gave me the idea that we could use wall paper for the accent wall at the end of the bathroom (the one that has the art).

No, no me gusta este papel tapiz, pero este es el medio bano que vimos en la casa muestra (el mismo modelo que la de nosotros) que vimos, el cual me dio la idea de que podriamos poner papel tapiz en la pared mas lejana a la puerta (donde estan los cuadros).

Now this is my favorite idea!!! And I've been wondering if I could pull off installing the tile by myslef on 1 wall like here.

Since we only have a pedestal sink I think we should have a cabinet where we can put extra toilet paper and things like that for our guests. This one's the first one I found that I liked and thought it would be a good fit for the small bathroom since it's a corner unit.

Debido a que nada mas tenemos el sink con pedestal ahi creo que deberiamos tener un gabinete donde podamos guardar el papel de bano extra y ese tipo de cosas para la visita. Este fue el primero que me encontre que me gusto y que yo creo que cabria bien en un bano chico porque es un esquinero.

The cabinet also comes in white which is goes more with the inspiration/ideas I've seen... But I can't say that I love this "type" of white. Plus all of the metals in around the house are silver.

El gabinete tambien viene en blanco lo cual va mucho mas con las ideas que he visto... Pero no puedo decir que me encante este "tipo" de blanco. Ademas de que todo lo de metal en la casa es plateado.

And finally, I found this other corner unit, in a white that I like and with silver hardware :-)

I guess we'll have to wait and see what "stays" and what "goes" :-)

Living Room

Since we're getting closer to closing, I'm starting to look into our decoration more "seriuosly"... These are the ideas I'm finalizing for the living room (if you check out the layout of the house, it's the one that specifically says "living room" in the front of the house and it's about 12 x 13'). First, this is where I got my original inspiration from:

Debido a que ya estamos tan cerca de la fecha de cerrar el trato en nuestra casa, he estado empezando a pensa mas "seriamente"... Asi que estan son las ideas que estoy finalizando para la sala (si miran el layout de la casa, es el area que dice "living room" al frente de la casa y es de aproximadamente 12 x 13 pies). Primero, esta es la foto de donde obtuve mi inspiracion:

I also found these drapes from JC Penney that I think would look nice (although, seeing the couch next to the curtains doesn't make them look that great together).

I like this concept but I don't think the black and white would do with the rest of the house. So I found the "brown zebra" one :-)

It also comes in white, which I love even more, but John says it would show dirt more and even though I think it will be easier to clean since it's leather, right now that I was writing about how the look like they will last forever I do think the brown was has more "staying" power.

Tambien viene en blanco, que me gusta aun mas, pero John dice que se le va a notar mas la mugre y aunque yo creo que va a ser facil de limpiar porque es de piel, ahorita que estaba escribiendo que parece que durarian para siempre estoy pensando que la cafe no pasaria de moda tampoco.

Kitchen and Bathrooms

Today's visit to the house was nice, but it was more like the "continuation" of last week's visit: now the range and the dish washer were installed, all the toilets, the shower doors, AC vents and the closet hardware... However, they removed ALL doors from the bedrooms, bathrooms, pantry and the closet, and even though it's obvious they did that because they're putting another coat of paint (they already re-did the ceiling), and even though I KNOW that they know what they're doing and that putting them back on takes only a few minutes I was a bit "dissapointed" looking at the step back :-S

I wonder what will be "new" next week???

La visita de hoy a la casa fue agradable, pero parecia mas la "continuacion" de la de la semana pasada: ya instalaron la estufa y la lavadora de trastes, las tazas de los banos, las puertas de las regaderas, las tapaderas de las ventilas y los anaqueles de los closet... Pero, quitaron todas las puertas de las recamaras, los banos, la alacena y los closet, y aunque es obvio que lo hicieron porque le estan dando otra pasada a la pintura (ya volvieron a pintar el techo), y aunque SE que ellos saben lo que hacer y que volverlas a poner solo lleva unos minutos, me "decepciono" un poco ver el paso hacia atras :-S

Me pregunto que habra de "nuevo" la proxima semana???

Holy Cow!!! Another Official Update!!!

I just got another official update about the house!!! Wow!!! I had never gotten 2 updates within the same week (I don't think)... And now we're only 1 item away from completion!!! I wonder if they'll wait until 2 weeks from now so that the carpets don't get dirty, or if they'll install them now... Hmmm... Any way, I'm stoked!!!

Me acaba de llegar otra actualización sobre la casa!!! Woo Hoo!!! Creo que nunca me habían llegado 2 en la misma semana... Y eso quiere decir que ya nada más nos falta un elemento más para que terminen!!! Hmmm... Me pregunto si irán a poner la alfombra en 2 semanas más para que no se vaya a ensuciar o si de una vez la van a poner... De cualquier manera estoy muy contenta!!!

Official House Update

I received the official house update from Centex!!! And I'm VERY excited to see only 2 itmes pending before it's ready!!! And the best thing is that I KNOW that both of the items are already in progress: all the lamps are installed, the electrical outlets and switches are there, and the AC controls too, I think that from item #8 what's missing are the toilets and the AC vents; and on item #9, they're done with all the vynil flooring, now we just need the carpet... Hmm... Could we close sooner???

Recibí el anuncio oficial de Centex de que ya completaron otra fase!!! Estoy muy emocionada viendo que ya sólo les faltan 2 cosas para que esté lista!!! Y lo mejor de todo es que SE que estos 2 elementos ya están en proceso: las lámparas ya están instaladas, las salidas y switches para la luz ya están ahí, y también los controles del aire acondicionado, yo creo que del #8 ya nada más falta que pongan las tazas del baño y las ventilas del aire acondicionado, y del #9 ya terminaro todo el piso de vynil, ya nada más falta la alfombra... Hmm... Podríamos firmar antes???
